There’s an easy answer to this:

America doesn’t watch minor league anything. Those kids can go to G-League if they choose, but those kids wanna be seen too, and apparently 24K costs less than the exposure they get at a college.

i already addressed this line of thinking...yall simply have no foresight into how easily things can be disrupted. hotels, cabs, and retail all had the same "well this just does it better/ does more" attitudes...air bnb, uber/lyft, and amazon got all them leaning back too.

I think the AAU programs and their "directors" are going to be under a lot of fire

Calipari doesn't pay recruits, get over it. He gets them to the NBA and then they make millions. He doesn't need to entice them by paying them under the table. Haters are mad he won't be named in this investigation.

I despise UK with the fire of a thousand suns but this is dead-on.

I hate Cal as being the HC of UKBball but I LIKE HIM as a players coach. He's figured out a system where he and the players can benefit. Yes its a good chance he has lost potential titles by letting the program be a stepping stone to the NBA. Regardless, UK is always top ranked, highly publicized, gets great ratings and merchandise sales, etc. etc..

Other colleges obsession with a HC being the star of the show and really only looking out for their own legacy, is a big reason why UofL is in the mess in the first place.

Doesnt use the one and done ticket, USA basketball (cough* Coach K *cough), or celebrities to sell his program....and mostly recruits out of Michigan/The Rust Belt. And his program is top 10 relevancy/competitiveness.

Edit: reading the statement it seems like this goes beyond just college sports and assistant coaches...they must have some higher ups on the hook for some shyt as well...

I don’t think so man. MSU was right there with Bowen and he does use magic Johnson as an endorser.

He’s a great coach no doubt, but he’s not clean either.

Side note: Miles Bridges is a one and done player, Izzo was just able to convince him to stay here.

Exactly. It would make sense to do shady shyt to get recruits if you can't normally get him. Players line up to play for Cal. Some have wanted to play for Kentucky since they were kids, like Immanuel Quickly. Cal's NBA players come back to hang out in lexington all the time even after they've become NBA superstars. He cares for his players above all else and that's why he gets the recruits that he does. He's the greatest recruiter ever and it has nothing to do with paying players. Pitino struggles to get 1 5 star recruit, he has to do shyt like this to obtain them.

Because he's coach cal and half the NBA has played for him. He doesn't need to give these kids anything under the table. He's clean as a whistle despite the haters wishing it was otherwise

I don't wish any ill will on Cal or UK. I'm just not naive. Its deeper than rap, homie. Cal isn't the gatekeeper to the NBA. Hell, Gonzaga had a lottery one and done player this year. You can ball and bounce from any school. The kids, shoe companies, and agents have the power, not the school. The player goes to the highest bidder. Even K is dirty. Pitino just couldn't sit his ass down. How can a school that's on probation continue to get blue chip players like Bowen (and lead for the #1 shooting guard Romeo Langford in 2018 class) and a team like UNC with all the tradition in the world, back to back championship games, a title, a coach with a .800 winning % and three chips to his name can't get any? Because with the NCAA at their door over this class shyt, they sat the fukk down. That's what Pitino should've done. I know how the bag game work. adidas didn't invest all that money into Bam just for him to bounce over "UK is able to get me to the NBA".
