Gotta blame Korea on this one for putting a fukkin wall at the end of the runway instead of a EMAS that would’ve stopped that plane after it overshot the runwayPilots can request to use a certain runway…but its ultimately upto ATC discretion. Wind and runway conditions also determine which runway can be used.
Normally, pilots plan to land on a specific runway. Therefore configure the aircraft to land based on that and other factors.
They simply did not have the time to configure the aircraft appropriately. Ie. Speed & flap configuration
