What do you think could’ve caused this? Could it be the structure deteriorating? I know a lot of those buildings north of south beach could be up to 100 years old.
My immediate thought is that the building was built in 1981, so it's 40 years old and may have been undergoing renovations in certain parts of the building, which could've affected the foundation. Of course this is all just me speculating

someone most liikely went to sleep, jarred awake by that fact that they were falling and then the ceiling collapses onto them. :merchant:

it probably happened so fast they didn't have time to process it.:hamster:
Gives me anxiety thinking about it. I had a cat scan twice and being in the machine had me spazzing out from the claustrophobic feeling during one of them. Being trapped alive with no idea of the outcome, scary, can't even imagine it. Hopefully ones that make it don't end up severely injured or paralyzed.

This is going to happen a lot more.

Think people would do well to get a shoebox, partially stuff it with cotton, and then see what happens when you put weight on top of it.

Then they should inject water into that shoebox and then dry it out.

The analogy is crude but the general concept if there. Consideration must be given when placing structures on a foundation that will change over time. I'm pretty sure that the risks are known, but the contractors have millions (bribery) insurance and know the catastrophe will happen outside of their life.

what if the rest of the building collapses while the rescue is taking place?
imagine being trapped under the rubble, tired, confused and possibly naked.
you hear movement, then a voice. people are trying to find you!
then, a large rumble...
it seems to go on forever.
when it's all over the darkness surrounding you somehow blackened further.
you look down and notice that you are indeed naked.

Surprised it doesn’t happen more often
