Infrastructure is innately political.
:yeshrug:
permits, inspections, building codes, licenses…all set by government regulations (or lack thereof)

Democrats and Republicans have had a middle finger posted up in general towards national infrastructure since the days of fukking Eisenhower..that's going back to the fukking mid to late 50's. We've been coasting on slowing currents since then..it's gone beyond a political issue because not only have the government on all levels failed to address this, it's mostly lazy populace haven't demanded changes until we've gotten to a point where shyt like this is happening more and more. A dumb, lazy and selfish society is the problem..it makes no sense that we can maintain military bases all over the fukking world yet have crumbling roads, sewer systems, lackluster subway systems and the such at home.

You come to realize that a lot of old shyt in this Country isn’t structurally sound and hanging on by a thread….

Hell, the army core of engineers paid to have a billboard erected literally warning people crossing that i80 bridge in Joliet to go “at your own risk”.

Engineers gave that bridge in Minnesota that collapsed a 50/100…the one in Joliet was 7.6/100. I80 is a major, major travel path from east coast to west coast.

And that’s public shyt, could only imagine how many of these private buildings are in shambles.

Point is, the mindset seems to be get what you can out of it on some Enron shyt, before it’s over and let the dominoes fall as they may instead of dumping a shytload of money rebuilding…but that’s just based on what I see

This was in DC just yesterday

This country is in shambles :francis:

I was just gonna post about that. My wife came in yesterday like “babe, turn on the news, a bridge just collapsed on 295, I just heard it on the radio”

I couldn’t believe that nobody was seriously injured. I told her I saw those walkways going up just a bit too fast…literally changing that Parkside/Mayfair/Kenilworth area at breakneck speed

Republicans and corrupt officials gonna end this country before we know it. I hope those people in South Beach will be okay. I pray for the dead and injured and their families. Profit is the only motive now. Safety and welfare of others?:hhh:

NYC has some of the best bed rock in the world. That’s why Manhattan looks the way it looks.

If you live in an old pre war in building in NYC your biggest worry is probably the interior of the building since some landlords don’t take care of them.

been to buildings where I almost tripped from a staircase being lose or parts of the staircase broken.

Another issue gas leaks
I'm actually familiar with all that.

I'm not too concerned with the foundation, just maintenance issues. I've been in a place where there was a partial ceiling drop due to water damage from not properly taking care of the roof. And years back before my current apartment building was sold, struc-engineers told the owners to fix an outer wall issue before selling...which they did

Plus, my fam owns a brownstone in Bed-Stuy. You seem to get floor issues with those

Exactly.

Listen, they sent up a report to Congress over thirty years ago talking about how the highway system as it’s currently designed will not be able to handle the expected traffic in correlation with population growth. They recommended upgrades on all major bridges connected to major interstates and making it standard three lanes instead of two. They were very focused on the bridges BACK THEN..in the goddamn nineties.

NOW you’re getting some of these governments panicking trying to catch up..for example, here in Charlotte, 85 south (at the state line) going down towards Atlanta USED to be a two lane highway..well, BMW opened up a factory in Spartanburg that provoked more traffic and the highway itself was already in disrepair. So these nikkas in SC have been struggling to make this highway three lanes for over five years and now they’re already rethinking that they needed to make that 85 stretch FOUR lanes instead of three..inept leadership.

A lot of building codes and regulations were broken with this building. Bet money on it.

That’s what happens when you elect racist ass retarded corrupt officials and politicians to run your state on every level.
