shyt is horrible. I don't want to even imagine what goes through a person's mind as the collapse happens, as well as in the hours afterwards. No amount of well wishes can remedy this situation. :mjcry:

reminds me of that bridge that collapsed in miami

I moved to Boston the year of the collapse. However, prior to that I was graduate student and lived at that apartment building in the background for two years. :wow:

A bridge definitely needed to be built because:

--8th street is one of the busiest streets in the county (shyts a free-for-all the further West you go)
--Miami nikkas don't give nary a fukk about safe driving/rules of the road (both native and international drivers)
--That off campus student housing area is literally next door to one of the largest universities in the country (jits driving with no damn sense)

The problem is that they rushed the bridges's construction. The infrastructure is actually still there (ongoing investigation).

Under Miami-Dade County Code, the owner of a building which has been in existence for 40 years or longer is required to have the building inspected for determining the general structural condition of the building.

Looks like there should be an inspection report that identified the problem before this happened.

Some of you all just politicized a building collapse. Like the whole of this shythole nation isn't corrupt and crumbling. :mjlol: This place is fast becoming Reddit. Yikes.

New is reporting one dead so far. Which is remarkably low but of course this could change. Still looking at the collapse you would expect at least a few dozen deceased.

America's crumbling infrastructure. Do you ever think about an overpass just falling on top of your car as you pass under it? One day that will happen to someone. Again.
Infrastructure is innately political.
:yeshrug:
permits, inspections, building codes, licenses…all set by government regulations (or lack thereof)

Maybe all the government inspectors were being super productive and working from home due to covid instead of inspecting this building.

A little money spent on inspections and repairs is always better than whatever’s about to happen now. Lawyers are gonna eat.

I wonder what caused it. Was it the construction mixed with weather conditions & a bad foundation?

I always think about stuff like this living in these NYC pre-war buildings built in the 30s/40s.

:merchant:

Honestly I would be much more concerned with a newer building collapsing than something built 80+ years ago. I live in Chicago and vast majority of the buildings are 100+ years old. Solid.
