there's only one belt in between blue and white? how long did it take you to get it, and how long will it be until you earn blue?

@beanz could you elaborate on the bs belt system your old school had

@Mowgli does your school focus more on self defense or sport?

btw that's some real shyt you and @Mr. Somebody have said about the freedom of a white belt. when i get disillusioned at how long it takes, i remember that and start to enjoy it more :salute:
The people at my school are guys who have been in a lot of fights in Real life so they tailor the training to actual fighting. The sport aspect is also covered but our coach is like, Pass the guard, Mount, submit. ABC It took me a year to earn my blue belt. It took me a little over 6 years to get my brown belt. I was so dedicated then. Ive taken a very hard hit in skilll though because of the demands of family.

Yea i heard of that other school.

Lloyd Irving took a huge hit with that thing :mjlol: serves him right with his mma millionaires club marketing shyt. Charging other school owners for business advise that pretty much amounted to jacking up prices. My old coach was in the mma millionaires club and them jumped ship when he realized Lloyd was a crook and then started his own marketing bs. I rather learn from people who want to share the art more then they want to become rich off students.

The self defense aspect is great, but I'm not in bjj for self defense. I started to lose weight and then I wanted to learn. I'm more of a hobbyist and technique nerd. I didn't start bjj because I was being bullied. I took muay thai and I sparred too but I always just felt like I rather spend my time and energy on rolling with the gi. If i could just roll for 8 hours a day I would.
The rent is jacked high as hell at alot of these locations since they're catering to the crowd with disposable income. They end up having to do all kind of extra programs to pay those bills a sadly sometimes wind up getting into nefarious shyt

Got that work this morning from some blue belts :whew:

Can't help but come out of this humble when dudes smaller than you are effortlessly having their way with you. When I get good, I'll never use this shyt against someone weaker than me who doesn't train just to get some points, cuz I know how it feels to be at someone's mercy :sadcam:

Felt good though

:russ: Yeah, that can't feel good. I'm 5'11 and a little under 190. Athletic so I make them work for it sometimes, but still end up tapping or choking :sadbron:

You're a big muhfukka :whew:

Yea man i want to slim down to 210 eventually so I can have a more fluid and flexible game. Inverted guards and all that :myman:

Right now all I do is more big man stuff naturally, like Americanas and kimuras and chokes from side control. My go to tho is cross collar chokes from the mount. That and rear naked chokes if I get the back

went to that abraham marte seminar yesterday. :whew: that dude is big as fukk. for a big dude he has some slick jiu jitsu tho. he taught me some incredible shyt that i cant wait to try out. ima try to describe it as best i can cause i have yet to see anybody teach it on youtube.

1. from guard (open or closed) sink in one hand on the collar like half a collar choke. get it as deep as u can.

2. while keeping the grip on the collar tight, lift your forearm on that same hand slightly til its on your opponents face. you can use this same grip and forearm crossface for guard retention as well. this was how he had us warm up. each of us took turns keeping our guard for 1 minute just holding the grip and pressing our forearm into the other's face while scooting away from the direction they chose to pass.

3. if the opponent decides to try and break the grip instead, take his right elbow (assuming u are gripping his collar with ur right) and push it across your arm and pull them towards u with your grip. this traps their right arm and exposes their back.

4. scoot out and hug his other side so u can get your hooks in and boom, u have his back. keeping the collar grip the whole time.

from there he showed us a sick armbar keeping that collar grip. the arm that keeps the collar grip gives u more leverage and keeps his shoulder from raising up, making the armbar finish faster. the setup is a typical armbar from the back setup. the only difference is u keep the collar so u can have more leverage.

then he showed us some submission whose name i dont even know. if u cant get the armbar cause u rolling with somebody who is double jointed, then u sink ur leg thats closest to his midsection and bring it to the other side of his head for a triangle lock from the top. then u either finish the triangle OR u grab his opposite arm and just squeeze it towards u. shyt applies so much pressure to the opposite shoulder and back muscles that u feel like u in some kind of torture rack.

the next sub was a choke from there. feeding the collar to the opposite hand and turning it into a collar choke or a bow and arrow. your choice.

unfortunately i had to leave before he got to the top game stuff. it was supposed to be a noon to 2pm seminar but it ran a little late and i had to go see my niece for her bday so i missed all the top game stuff :sadcam:

he gonna be in cali for the worlds next week so if he does a seminar over there i highly suggest my west coast brehs to check it out. dude is really smart.

There's different types of bjj. I do sport bjj cause I'm a hobbyist but there's also mma bjj and self defense bjj which are basically the same except mma bjj has to account for rules in the cage.

Self Defense mma teaches u how to defend off your back only if u have to but it teaches women how to escape and run and teaches men how to sweep and stay on top to land punches. Nothing is as effective as bjj in a 1 on 1 Street fight because u control where the fight happens. U can take advantage of your opponent's overzealousness and training in it teaches u to be calm at a level people don't understand.

Just youtube the Gracie challenge videos and "bjj Street fight" and u will see.
