I was like fukk yall though because they should know there's levels to this rolling shyt
Yea you gotta be comfortable with takin an L every now and then in search of that creativity. I've found alot of sneaky shyt by letting people work and almost catch meyea i see higher belts get caught all the time but its only cause, like my boy told me, higher belts take it easy and experiment with the lower ranks. ive passed brown belts guards at times and be like only to be like 3 seconds later in a kimura. i just saw a video this morning where a white belt doing his blue belt test caught a black belt in a kneebar.
just talking about this makes me wanna roll right now
i took the day off tomorrow just so i can go to the am class and go after the big dude since i missed class monday night.
there's only one belt in between blue and white? how long did it take you to get it, and how long will it be until you earn blue?I'm still in it to win it. I'm sure every gym does stripes and whatnot differently--at mine, they issue a blue and white stripe belt in between white and blue, which I earned last week. Of course it's still a white belt, but felt good to accomplish something, since I know it's going to be a long road toward that blue belt.
I have good athleticism, so that saves me sometimes, but I'm trying to be Mayweather surgical with it when I learn techniques. Doing a lot of tapping, so I'm just trying to soak it all in and get a lesson from it.

@beanz could you elaborate on the bs belt system your old school had
@Mowgli does your school focus more on self defense or sport?
btw that's some real shyt you and @Mr. Somebody have said about the freedom of a white belt. when i get disillusioned at how long it takes, i remember that and start to enjoy it more

thanks brehWell my old coach was kind of an egomaniac and came up with his own system. He even customized the belts. His system was first white, then white with one blue stripe, then white with 2 blue stripes, then blue with 1 white stripe, then blue with 2 white stripes, and if u didn't also train in muay thai and no gi, he wouldn't promote u. Also he started charging dudes to give them their purple so I was like Nah I'm out. I got to blue with 1 white stripe and didn't move from there cause in his words all I wanted to do was "pajama fight". Well I'm a gi head, I'm not a fan of no gi. So I moved on. When I came here none of my old rank meant anything so I had to start from fresh white belt which I'm fine with. Like mowgli said there's a lot less pressure and I can refresh what I learned with fresh whites.
thanks breh
my coach's system is: white - white with 1 stripe (yellow belt - white belt with internal yellow stripe) - white with 2 stripes (white belt with internal orange stripe) - white with 3 stripes (white belt with internal green stripe) - then blue belt and on
i dont like that no gi shyt either. it's real disrespectful to the original masters to shyt on no-gi fighting like that in my opinion.
our grandmaster is relson gracie, so i guess technically the lineage is from helio. but the school has relson's name on it i think that's where my coach gets the belt system from
yeah, colors is whatever to me, but i like how difficult it is to get to blue belt. there's an affiliate school in BX run by Mike Casey, you ever heard of it?
relson schools are a little different from what i understand, BIG emphasis on self defense and lack of machismo culture. from seminars it seems like orange belts are often matched up well overall with a lotta blue belts from other schools. i dunno how shyt those other school are tho tbf
there's a lotta weirdos in the bjj world, we got lloyd irvin's team here in the dc area. google results alone are
