3 days for progress. 2 days to maintain. I used to go 5 days a week so obviously you get good fast that way. 3 days is what my teachers teacher recommends for minimum, friend.

thanks for the tip breh

Another tip. Dont think to hard about when you're going to get promoted friend. If you stick with it you'll dream of the days you were a blue belt. The more you get promoted the heavier the belt gets which means more pressure which sucks. People want to get stripes off you and you have to work to maintain an image at the academy.i'll try to make it 4/week consistently. 5 is impossible because i have other avenues in which to better myself as a human being, or "friend" as some might say
thanks for the tip breh
that's some real shyt. i just had a conversation with the head of the academy tonight about this. i told him i'd never ask about the next test like some of the younger guys do, i just requested that he tell me when he thought i'd be ready and i'd accept it.Another tip. I didnt figure it out till I was about to get my purple belt fri3nd. I can't stress that enougj. No matter how long it takes don't think about your next belt or stripe. The coach will know when you're ready. Don't compare belts and stripes because it will effect your training when you get that purple belt then some phenom comes in and you get tapped out by a blue belt. From there the more you get promoted the more the threat of taping to lower belts can tear at you. we have one young breh in there who is very gung ho and in ROTC or something like that and often asks about "the next belt test". he's a hard worker so i dont begrudge him too much but it's no surprise he is over aggressive and very prideful about "winning" sparring drills. he is a few stripes ahead of me but in truth i feel like i am on a higher trajectory mentally
i get you 100%. its good to hear an experienced practitioner confirm what i thought to be true. thank you for the wisdom, friend.I didnt figure it out till I was about to get my purple belt fri3nd. Never been to a seminar. The master teacher learned from Carlos Gracie jr and worked with the machados when he came to the states then started his own school. I learned from one of his black belts who was a pan am champ, friend.i get you 100%. its good to hear an experienced practitioner confirm what i thought to be true. thank you for the wisdom, friend.
do you ever attend seminars? with which grand master is your school affiliated, if i may ask?
Take it easy friend. You may want to leave after the lesson or suggest to friends that they just light roll with you. Being competitive is going to get you hurt friend. You only get one back
I've been injured all year with a nagging back and shoulder injury but been training in my friends garage who is a brown belt. I'm itching to go back.
For anyone who wants some good soap get Dr bronners and some tea tree oil, that will kill all the grime and prevent ringworm.
Another tip is if you smoke weed, I highly recommend smoking weed before class. It makes your more relaxed and the moves just flow better. Has upped my bjj game tenfold. I'm a no gi guy and I enjoy that way more.
Also, for a cup I highly recommend diamond. I
“………I still box with Grant, who has now become the champion middleweight wrestler of the United States. Yesterday afternoon we had Professor Yamashyta up here to wrestle with Grant. It was very interesting, but of course jiu jitsu and our wrestling are so far apart that is it difficult to make any comparison between them. Wrestling is simply a sport with rules almost as conventional as those of tennis, while jiu jitsu is really meant for practice in killing or disabling our adversary. In consequence, Grant did not know what to do except to put Yamashyta on his back, and Yamashyta was perfectly content to be on his back. Inside of a minute Yamashyta had choked Grant, and inside two minutes more he got an elbow hold on him that would have enabled him to break his arm; so that there is no question but that he could have put Grant out. So far this made it evident that the jiu jitsu man could handle the ordinary wrestler. But Grant, in the actual wrestling and throwing was about as good as the Japanese and he was so much stronger that he evidently hurt and wore out the Japanese. With a little practice in the art I am sure that one of our big wrestlers or boxers, simply because of his greatly superior strength, would be able to kill any of those Japanese, who though very good men for their inches and pounds are altogether too small to hold their own against big, powerful, quick men who are as well trained.”
Ive been dead lifting and squatting for years so thankfully ive been blessed with a strong back. I havnt had any serious injuries god willing. Ive had a lot of friends vanish from training with injuries though. Hurt spines, messed up ankles, shoulders, and alot of times it was because they were going to hard with the wrong person.
brehs. so US president teddy roosvelt trained in jiu jitsuhow crazy is that?
check out this excerpt i found of him talking about jiu jitsu vs wrestling. all the way back in 1905
