Kobe's not as bad of a defender as he's made out to be by the people who obsess over every negative thing to be said about kobe and he's not the best defender at his position...his off ball defense is lacking this year particularly, he's long had the habit of roaming off of his man...especially if it's not a known big time scorer...in the past he'd use his athleticism to recover, now that results in a too late contest that results in a open shot...on the ball he's still pretty good if not as good as his younger days..and still able to be a dog if the match up permits...like these games against kyrie and jennings, he was very goodl defensively....there's no great crime in admitting that...the same people that were all up in threads giddy because kobe got loss on d on a couple plays in other threads, should be able to commend him for his effort these last two games...the defensive 1st team shyt should be a mute point by now...he wasn't on it last year, and won't be on it this year either...the fact that kobe is still being called on to take assignments usually reserved for defensive specialist (the tony allens of the world are as good as they are defensively because they can go full tilt at it all game long...their offensive responsibility being next to nil) at the age of 34 while still being leaned on to score and play upwards of 40mins any given night is not ideal and one of the weaknesses of team...but it is what it is

Is this where Brandon Jennings is pumped up as though he isn't shooting a shytty percentage on the season? Where was this defense when Harden had him on skates, or KD and Russ combined for 69 damn points or Afflalo hitting him for 30?

Avery Bradley and Tony Allen are the two best perimeter defenders in the league, Kobe getting 1st team over either of them would be a joke. This is what is truly annoying about fans of Kobe, the fact everything he does gets blown the fukk up. Two good defensive performances on young PGs with no quality teammates to bail them out, and now he's "back" let me know when Russ and KD don't tap dance all over him.

As a fan of kobe, he should not get the 1st team defense over anyone at all this season. I would be kinda disgusted if he did. I don't think you would find a single laker fan who would disagree with this opinion either, however I think it's a breath of fresh air for lakers fans seeing kobe commit so much on the defensive end especially with all the media driven overblown controversy of how kobe's defense is some how the sole reason why the lakers have been losing.

I watch damn near every Laker game possible. And Kobe's on ball D is still amazing. Whoever he guards rarely rarely score baskets on him. Kobe off ball is just pure disprespect tho. Its like he dont giv a fukc about someone who cant shot/score. Dat pisses me off. Because these guys are in the NBA. A open shot is a open shot. Whether watever bricklayer Kobe leaves open to miss or make it causes chaos on LA's D. He dont rotate at times or he just be so focused on scoring he runs to the other end of the court trying to get a easy basket. Im so happy Kobe is taking this challenge. But at the same time i worry. There was one play last game where Kobe was guarding two people at once. Nash was zoned out or something because he was no where around that play.

Kobe can still play really good D if he makes the effort and plays on the ball D. He is not a great off the ball defender anymore because of his age.

We're in mid-January. One or two games doesnt excuse how wack this nikka has been on defense the entire season.

The haters will be quiet in this thread, especially since they have been blaming everything on him recently.

Brandon Jennings is a career sub 40% shooter on a team that has never been good. Are you that surprised that no one in the league picks him up full court to try to shut him down?

Look how teams have defended Kobe lately. Even when he was up over 50%, they weren't full court pressing him, they were often leaving him wide open because you don't need to shut him down to win.
