As someone who can talk and listen to 80s and 90s hip-hop all day...

I gotta say...

These threads are tired as shyt. There's a new "what happened to hip-hop?" thread every three days, and it's the same argument. I can almost set my watch to it.

All I can say at this point is :manny: if I disliked something for damn near 15 years, I wouldn't keep paying attention to it. But maybe that's just me.

There's good and bad in everything. If you're old enough to remember hip-hop in the 80s and 90s, you know this. We can sit here and talk about classics all day, but there was wack shyt then just as there is now. POPULAR wack shyt at that. We just didn't sit around subjecting ourselves to it and complaining about it all day... we listened to the good shyt and kept it movin'.

Cant be upset when to many of the major players have allowed certain things to become a part of the culture to teh point there is no culture anymore. Hip Hop is just a genre now...its "entertainment" and as "entertainment" you're dealing with "business" and with wack rappers being able to get a fan base and sell their product on itunes one has to come to the conclusion that its just the way things are now...accepot it and move on. The era that I once loved in the 90's had its criticisms by those of yesteryear as well, I remember so , it just is what it is.

I agree that rap music is in shambles. I look at the game like this. How is 2Pac still the greatest rapper of all time & he hasnt made new music in 20 yrs? That's a problem to me. Its been a few good consistent artists to bring sumn new to the game since tho.

top 10 of all time(mainstream power rankings)

Pac - dead
nas - not inspired
hov - not inspired
wayne - fell way the fvck off & prolly had ghostwriters
drake - fell off & redundant
ye - ??? idk
tip - fell off
ross - just coastin at this point
wiz - fell off sumn terrible
kdot - still has a little more to prove in order to move up in the rankings

We still makin threads about The Lost Tapes & all this other old shyt because this new music is just not good. It sux that music is in this state. I wouldnt be suprised if nikkas stopped rappin soon. It's nothing but party music & its okay to party to, but it doesnt compare to the great workx of other genres as opposed to the older hip hop that did. Its sad really.

breh fukking stop. Im all for different types of hiphop. The only thing I said was this isn't expanding rap seeing how nikkas have been rapping about coke since the 80s. Coke rap hasn't been expanding anything since 84. And what's this idea because I don't bump this bullshyt so somehow im trying to crush the genre or stop people from bumping this shyt? IMO this shyt sucks and hiphop has been raping about the samething in the mainstream for over 20 years and it's only getting more narrow minded. Stop acting like a spoiled child when mommy tells him to turn off the game and just think about what OP is saying instead of going on full defence mode.

All this shyt about me thinking all black folks are thugs or only people should rap about gold chains is ridiculous and has nothing to do with mine or OPs point. This track fukking sucks that is that. The problem is shyt like this gets promoted and not actual quality hiphop. Gimmick rap is fine as long as the foundation of hiphop culture is be pushed and promoted which is not happening. You're actually making OPs point when you mention the variety of acts that preformed in the 80s/90s. Do me a favour and tell me a concert that has showed a variety of hiphop acts last year?

The fact that you think everything and everyone that puts words to a beat should be excepted in our culture just by putting out music is the same reason why Macklimore and this Iggy bytch are running the game right now. You have zero respect for hiphop as a culture breh. The fact that you put a classic like Rock This Way and legends like X Clan as a defence to probably one of the worst rap songs ever created shows your naivete in not only rap but hiphop as a culture itself. I'm not against dude expression through hiphop but I am against this shyt being one of a million tracks just like it being pushed by people that haven't a clue about our culture. You speak about sub genres and variety but tell me where was the variety in Hiphop in 2014?

Also why are you going so hard for this knowing what he's glamorizing has completely destroyed our culture? All we get is Coke rap, Gang rap, No problems and are women aint shyt but hoes rap. There is a whole other side to our culture. Why are you going so hard for the ones that have all the promotion and the backing of the music industry and is only speaking about the most horrific acts in our community?

You say I'm trying to marginalize HipHop but you're the one going ham for the people that are doing exactly that. Im just a consumer with a wish. You are backing the people that have literally marginalized our culture to just whores, gang bangers and drug dealers. I'm not the problem breh but maybe to someone like you I am.

There's always been bs & dope ish since the start of the culture & even on "rappers delight" big bank hank was rappin about a solid gold rolls royce n shvt so i will always understand the materialism of the culture. The problem is that there isnt any balance and the people that are tryna bring sumn different are either wack or the average consumer wont give them the time of day. All I can see is that we need to be the change that we wanna see. Fuq the turn up shvt...yeah its cool to party to, but that shvt wont last. Look at all the rappers thats come and gone in the past 5 yrs. We need that poetry. We need that passion. We need that creativity back. But hey, The black community is more fukked up than ever so its really just art imitating life.

Theres alot of life imitating art also. Blacks are the only race where music dictates so much of the culture. What these rappers say and do become trends. If rappers made dressing like a grown man, education and started shunning the gang/prison lifestyle then it would become "cool" for kids to follow. Of course im not saying that would cure all problems but it would help tremendously. I think we're all underestimating the power and influence these rappers havea
