JJ is basically Speilberg and Lucas Son (Prodigy). They handpicked him to be next in line. He's not on their level or Cameron's. Star Wars is going to be back on Top because of the Legacy of the franchise is something even Cameron can't stop. Shoot, "Jurassic World" almost dethoned "Titanic" Domestically if it didn't have the re-release money added to it. So Steven and George used their disciples to dethone Cameron with their legendary properties.

I think he proved his originality through his early screenplays like "Reguarding Henry, Forever Young" and his television shows. Yes so far as a director he's been franchise hopping going from Mission Impossible to Trek to Star Wars. So he's done nothing but sequels outside of "Super 8" which was basically a spielberian film. When I say Prodigy I say that in only two of the Gods of cinema basically picked him. Selected him in a way. And now he tops not only them but taken out Cameron twice. Gotta give props where props is due. Yes Episode VII wasn't original but it did the job. I still think this happen because Star Wars is a multi-generational film series so young and old go and watch it. But JJ is not on Steven's level nor is he on George or Cameron.

Lucas isn't happy with the movie though, since Disney/LucasFilms gave him the boot and no creative control for the new series.

That might be possible. It'll be in theaters for at least another month maybe two. And I can see them doing a rerelease before it hits home video
