He's playing the long game...he wasn't starting in Memphis or Atlanta. He'll be the Suns starting point guard, so if he shows out then he'll get a nice deal next summer somewhere.

We were forced to start both of them to see who's actually a starter out of respect. Because Poole was physically bigger he was forced to the two even if he's undersized there, Forced to guard bigger more athletic guys and operating from spaces hes not used to. Swallowed all the slander for the year. The moment he was put on ball he started producing when operating in the capacity he was used to.
With Brogdon and Bub in we no longer have to make Poole take one for the team.

Its most likely because of the opportunity to be the starter. If he thrives in this role on this one year deal, then he will be able to make much more with the new TV deal kicking in.
Supposedly he's going to start and folks on reddit were saying Beal should come off the bench. I dont know how you could start Jones, Beal and Booker
