MJ mega-celebrity status biases the way people appreciate his talent.

I know people that swear that MJ was the biggest musician of all time but you'll never catch them listening to a MJ album.

MJ was the absolute megastar. He has no competition in that aspect.

But when it comes to music, he's not untouchable.
No one is untouchable musically because it’s subjective.

I said that I wouldn’t put R Kelly above those three. However, as someone else mentioned, they would have to be broken down into talents to have a real discussion.

Of the four discussed...
Stevie is the better writer,
Prince is the better musician
MJ is the better entertainer
And R Kelly has the better voice (of the other three) & most diverse discography

Nah son, definitely not. Prince is easily the most diverse mainstream artist of the last 40 years. When Kellz comes out with a punk rock or psychedelic rock album, get back to me.

Dude covered more genres on ONE ALBUM:

Love 2 the 9’s (R&B, Pop, Hip-Hop)
The Morning Papers (Soft Rock)
The Max (Pop, Hip-Hop)
Blue Light (Pop, Reggae)
I Wanna Melt With You (Techno)
Sweet Baby (Soul, R&B)
The Continental (Rock)
Damn U (Soul, R&B)
Arrogance (Funk)
The Flow (Hip-Hop)

You know what...I’ll give you the versatility argument for Prince.

But for me personally, although Prince is a great artist, a lot of his music is too eccentric for me. So yes, he is more versatile but I prefer Prince’s mainstream tracks while I can enjoy others released & b-side tracks.
