If we exclude all pre 90s music, then yes, R Kelly the #1 artist.
But I still wouldn’t put him above Stevie, MJ or Prince. Then you have to add in the other headliners like Marvin Gaye or Isaac Hayes, for example.

Trust, I'm not dismissing Kells but dude really comes off as one dimensional to be considered better than the main three. In my mind, Chocolate Factory was the closest thing to his true opus because of all the bullshyt he was dealing with. Sadly, nobody puts Chocolate Factory up there with TP2.Com and R
Being versatile is actually one of the stronger points in favor of R. Kelly. Just listen to the differences of these tracks. Dude covers 90s r&b, inspirational, big band & step.
I wouldn’t put him above Stevie, MJ or Prince, but Kelly discography, especially when you consider writing credits, ain’t nothing the sneeze at.

I said that I wouldn’t put R Kelly above those three. However, as someone else mentioned, they would have to be broken down into talents to have a real discussion.
Of the four discussed...
Stevie is the better writer,
Prince is the better musician
MJ is the better entertainer
And R Kelly has the better voice (of the other three) & most diverse discography
