Definitely not :mjlol:

R Kelly writes some good fukk songs, but Prince created entirely new genres. In his hey day, rock white stations and black R&B stations were playing his songs at the same time because his music couldn't be categorized. His work in the 80s was both commercially successfully yet also had artistic depth, and there are very few artists who claim that aside from Stevie, the Beatles, Marvin Gaye, and maybe some of Michael Jackson's work. R Kelly never achieved this. His work is catchy but not lyrically profound or musically challenging.
all that dont mean ish ...

kelly has a stronger top 20 for me

hell u can make a kelly top 40 and it will end prince and that is fact

The range of Prince's catalogue >>>> EVERYBODY

This. Not saying Prince's catalogue is better than everyone else's, but to this day, I've never heard anything like When Doves Cry. It's one of the most unusual, yet catchy songs ever written and it can't be categorized in any genre. Also, does Kels have a nuwave / punk rock album? Prince did. It's called Dirty Mind. He also had psychedelic rock, gospel, metal, as well as pop, funk and R&B of course. None of these other dudes are touching Prince's eclecticism.

Mike could play the piano if I’m not mistaken. I think he only did it as a child
Edit:
Yeah he can play piano and guitar.

Probably the same way I can "play" piano, i.e. I can't. I know a few chords but that's it. If you can't go on a stage and play your own songs off the top of your head, you can't play. Prince was doing shows with just him and a piano during his last tour. There's a reason why we've never seen Michael Jackson pick up an instrument.

See people bringing up songwriting and playing instruments to pump up prince. We just talking bout the songs man. And shyt like 1999 ain't coming to the table vs R Kelly :camby:

I would take the "1999" album over Kels entire catalogue :noah:

In boosies defense, the context of this argument was who has more hits or wrote for others that could be entered into a versuz battle...going off of that R Kelly would provide some good comp against Stevie and prince. MJ’s catalogue can’t compete, yes he’s the biggest star ever, yes, an all time entertainer, no, he didn’t have a bunch of hits because he didn’t put out as much music as the others..just my $0.02

Yall this guy said MJ doesn't have 20 songs he can use in a Verzuz battle. In the history of SOHH and The Coli this ranked right up there with "a snake isn't an animal" as one of the dumbest things I have read between the two sites.

I grew up with Kels more because I'm from the Chi :manny:

But I took time to discover Prince and he's been my favorite artist since 12

Plus, let's be real. Prince and MJ both alienated a lot of black ppl in the 90s and made it difficult to be fans of theirs, the former with his symbol shyt and the latter with his little kids shyt. MJ never had the chance to redeem himself in the public eye until he died and Prince sort of floated into obscurity and became the answer to 80s pop trivia questions until his comeback in the 2000s.
I mean at this point breh.... Kellz alienated his whole legacy than:beli:

Young people are getting into mike heavy now and for the foreseeable future. Cant say the same for kellz. Bringing up anything mike-with lil kids is:beli: at this point and in a thread like this

MJ didn't do that shyt, so anybody bringing it up sounds uninformed due to lack of research. :yeshrug:
