Much respect, but I haven't thought of tackling Dostoevsky since college.
im going to start probably in Feb :wow:
Tah book any good?

swear I read his comics but none of his own shyt lol

it was dope. its basically a letter to his son letting him know what its like to black in america...his experience going to Howard University, calling it 'Mecca'. How the 'American dream' doesnt exist without the oppression of blacks.

I've heard him speak a few times but this is the first book i read of his...im a fan now.

Grabbed some easy reads off of Google Play Books for $1.99-$4.99 to try and hit my goal quicker. Thought they'd be quick & fast but entertaining reads but that ended up being debatable (by my own standards at least).

Book 11

They need to reign some of these "thriller" writers in cuz I don't know wtf this was supposed to be. The suspense just wasn't there. There was no societal commentary on anything to make up for it fr. And the "twist" at the end was some grade A bull. And at damn near 400 pages, it was meandering like a mf smh.

Book 12

There's a good book in here somewhere....I'm just not sure where. Again, 300-400 pages, slow building only to rush in sum shyt the last 20-30 pages. This one at least had better characters and plot, and some interesting things with grief/obsession and whatnot but I'm not sure what that ending was.

Some of these mfs got way too high of an output to be doing quality control and just wanna "Gone Girl", "Behind Her Eyes" or "Girl On The Train" everybody to death but in a much more boring/uninteresting way.

Anyways, goal for the yr reached. Now I can get back to the hear (hopefully) that's in my queue.
Listen breh

Don't read books by white woman authors, especially these assembly line millennial thrillers. I had to find out the hard way. Just about all of them are what I bolded. Millennial cac women can't finish a story for shyt:mjlol:

Thank me later:mjlol:

Sidenote: What was everyone's top book of 2024 that they read?

Out of my 12, it's probably still Fire And Blood by the pump fake man.

Only finished 20 books this year.

Best one? Probably one of the R. Scott Bakker Books - Grim Dark Fantasy + Philosophy. There awfulness is turned up to 11 on this, but Bakker's prose is what stops this from being an edgelord fest. (unlike say god awful Brian Lee Durfee)

The basic story - a Sad version of Gandalf is hunting down a demon/alien conspiracy that nobody believes still exist. While this is happening, a bunch of kingdoms want to retake the holy lands from the book's Muslim Stand Ins. And a 3rd thread is a super-sociopath meets a bizzaro version of Conan the Barbarian - and then all 3 intersect.

It goes from one awful event to another - but in the midst of it, there's just a lot of insight into life and how people behave. (similar to what I get from reading Jane Austen)

Easiest to read - The Bezzle - Cory Doctorow - 1 of 2 sci-fiction books I read, possibly, and less sci on the fi. Could be called a tech-thriller. Protagonist is a retired/specialized forensic accountant.

Most Disappointing - The Great Change - Joe Abercrombie - a selection of short stories after the events of his latest trilogy.

 name the book

It's 7 books

3 in the first trilogy - which covers The Crusade - I'd recommend the 1st one - The Darkness that Comes Before

4 books in the concluding tetraology - Book 1 has this awesome parallel to Tolkienn - The Judging Eye.

But if you like book 1, all of the books have the same amount of profane and profound.

In my Year in Books on goodreads it has that I read 48 books and 23,987 pages this year.
Average book length was 499 pages
Shortest book was The Hellhound Heart - 164
Longest book was The Stand - 1153

I don't even know if I can point to one book that is my favorite. I had fun with the vast majority of the books I read in 2024
