Cold ass intro....
I found out recently that Giant Slide was originally the intro, and they couldn't find a great slot to put Carruth in the middle of the album, because they knew didn't think it fit at the end with other slower and more introspective joints like Grey October, Mustard, and Phone Bill. They thought Carruth would slow the album down too much at the end, but they also didn't want to interrupt the Surf, Scrape, Pinto, Slow Roll, and Snort sequence.
Evidence of all people suggested that Carruth go as the 1st track because the writing is so vivid, and he said it would sound like a quiet prelude before Giant Slide kicks in...so they put Carruth 1st and agreed it sounded best that way.
