I definitely agree with this take. My 1st Chemistry Set, production wise, was flawless. But Boldy's flow and raps weren't all there. It's a dope album and he has his moments on there, but overall it def felt like the beats were lapping. The features also lapped him, especially Vince who was untouchable at the time.

So to hear Boldy's talent jump from there to Price Of Tea In China was wild. And then for him to take it up another notch on Super Tecmo Bo...he's def on fire right now. The features he's been doing lately are crazy too. I don't think anyone is doing that coke rap shyt better than him right now, outside of Pusha.

Glad you replied to this. Dope to hear your take.

Essentially I'm on the same page. Only difference is I have Bo Jackson slightly ahead of Super Tecmo Bo, but I think the very best songs on Tecmo are probably the very best songs they've made together. And honestly I think their next album is likely to continue the trend of topping whatever came previously. I really hope they bless us with another one sometime before the year ends, and I have a good feeling they will.

Did you hear Boldy's verse on Tana Talk 4? It was very impressive. And I agree with you that he's been killing the features lately. He's even been doing a lot of features for cats I've never heard of and knocking them out of the park...not giving them throwaway verses at all.

I was surprised by his enthusiasm for STB. I liked it but thought Bo Jackson was a clear step or two above it.

Guess I got no choice but to go back and listen yet again!
I thought Bo Jackson was a step above too, but mostly because of the cohesion and it just feeling like more of an actual album due to it being longer, having more features, etc. But STB is amazing too and I've enjoyed it more and more since it dropped.

Nicholas Craven talks Super Tecmo Bo and BoldChemist

turned it off the second the faq on the left opened his mouth. Seeing that shyt made me realize James probably stands out because he had a father in the house, his strange contrast from other rappers is no longer a mystery, remiscent of a 70s cat that walked and talked with assurity, seemingly with zero effort

So is this a dope or nope for Boldy James?

Sounds like dope

Saw an interview of Boldy's. Did not know he was related to Chuck Inglish but it kinda makes sense voice wise lol.

Also I feel Super Techmo is better but you guys make me wanna go back to Bo Jackson to see if it's something I missed. I enjoyed both projects a lot but played Super Techmo Bowl more.

Super Tech Bo was more vivid than price of tea

If you go back and listen to Jackson and form a different opinion I'd love to know what it is.

It's in my top 3 all time favorite Alc collab projects. I think Boldy as a rapper in 2021 > Boldy as a rapper any year prior, and it's my favorite batch of Alc beats since Covert Coup. It just sounds so vibrant and colorful to me.

Al and Boldy had an interview where Al said he based his work with Boldy on MadGibbs, and IMHO Bo Jackson is Al's homage to Bandana. Pinata and Price of Tea are both a little more cohesive and sequenced with a more similar theme with the production, but Bandana and Bo Jackson are both more wild and trippy, with both the rapper and the producer going deeper into their respective bags and pulling out all the stops.

Yeah I think Jackson and Tecmo sound a little more vivid and colorful than Tea, both on the raps and production. But I get why some people like Tea more. It has a more consistently dark tone throughout, and it's a slightly better winter/nighttime album.

I copped the black vinyl and the bucket hat.

It was crazy because when I first went to cop the black vinyl was sold out. Which made no sense since it’s not a limited item. Then after I copped the bucket hat, the black vinyl was available. Did anyone else have this problem?

I think a lot of people had that issue. It said sold out for a split second and then it got fixed. I've had that issue before too on some other Shopify based sites.
