I agree with you that Islamic religious conviction isn't necessarily the reason why Boko Haram is killing innocent people, but it is a justification for its acts. Compared to the anti-balaka who do not use Christian doctrine to justify their killing of Muslims in the Central African Republic. Islam's main problem in my opinion is that it contains within the Qur'an a doctrine of 'just war' that can be easily misinterpreted. This is largely due to Muhammad waging war against Mecca and the Jewish tribes of Arabia after his flight to Medina.
You can't really just skim the Quran or then what's the point in reading it. I'm sure you understand that those stories are to explain that Muslims were under attack for preaching their ideology... and those guys didn't want to die so they attacked back.
You can use any idea for any purpose..... that's your own fault not the fault of the concept. I can use the Idea that All bytches are trifilin hoes to justify why I will act possessive and abuse my wife and not even allow her to leave the house for weeks at a time. That would be my own fault.... that the ideas fault.
You know what i mean. More than 20 million africans were enslaved during islamic slave trade, compared to 300k slaves being transported to USA. Now compare the numbers of Africans in Arab and USA.

How we know the exact numbers of the Islamic slave trade? Very little records were kept compared to the European Slave trade.
