Was messing round w/ a calculator today. I thought this pretty interesting.

Withdrawing $3k every month, from an $400k account, earning 9% interesting per year, for 28 years would leave with exactly $400k.

Earn 1% less interest, will leave you with about $18k

Earn 10% interest, will leave you with over $900k.

Messing around with this fire calculator:

$650K mix of 80% stocks, 15% bonds, 5% cash, spending $35K per year gives you a 72.6% chance of not running out of money in 30 years.

Based on returns of every 30 year period in stock market history here are a few additional numbers:

Median account balance after 30 yrs: $726K.

Average median account balance after 30 yrs: $929K

Largest account balance after 30 yrs: $3.1M

Percentage of accounts with over $1M after 30 yrs: 40%
