Am i the only one who has gotten enjoyment out of the Margaret character? The episodes where she was knowingly putting herself in the middle of the criminal underworld to protect Nuck were some of my favorite scenes on the show. I was ecstatic to see her temporarily show that side when Nucky was getting ready for his meeting with the other bosses. Who is a stronger female character on this show than her?

How many of those million viewers do you think cancelled their HBO subscription?

Be honest...

It's really not a complicated process to comprehend...

The millions of people that watch True Blood pay for Boardwalk Empire whether they watch it or not.. You keep trying to make this false equivalency with network television.. It doesn't matter if you watch Treme or not.. Because if you want to watch Real Sports or Curb Your Enthusiasm you are gonna pay for the production of their show..That's how subscription based television works...

It's not that ratings don't matter at all... It's just that it's not the determining factor like it usually is on ad revenue based TV...

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about here....Which was apparent earlier when you brought up the 18-49 male demographic as their main focus (something that premium pain channels could care less about)...

Another source from a 3rd party since you guys keep thinking I have a reason to lie to you....

I notice you guys sometimes post the 18-49 ratings for HBO. But it doesn't make sense to me that HBO would care about the advertising demographics at all. They don't sell advertising and it doesn't make sense that they would care how old their subscribers are. Does HBO really care about this number? Why do you post them?

You seem confused. Factually around 60% of "Boardwalk"'s viewership is 18-49, male. Not females. Which is why I said if they're writing for females they're barking up the wrong tree. Whether or not they're going after the 18-49 male demographic has nothing to do with anything, that is who watches the show.

And did you even read what you posted? It doesn't seem like you did:

If HBO found a show that lured 5 million new subscribers over the age of 50 without alienating a lot of its subscribers under 50, it would not care if the show pulled a 0.0 rating with adults 18-49.

"Boardwalk" doesn't have 5 million subscribers in any age bracket. It barely has 2 mill total at some points during season 3. And only 60% of them are 18-49, which again is the show's core audience. So uh....what the fukk are you talking about? Re-read what you quoted because you completely misunderstood their point.

By your logic HBO would never cancel anything. Why did "The Wire" constantly face cancellation? Why are they cancelling "Treme"?

And keep in mind neither of those shows have a $50-$60 mill budget.

Season 4 will probably be a little more consistent than 3..This season had many classic moments..but also a lot of boring fukkery goin on between episodes 1-11..

2 certified classic episodes.

-the one with Capone teaching his son how to box was a masterpiece
-11 is imo a top 5 be episode

the rest was very average for the greatness that the show is..

I guarantee season 4 will be the best season. They brought in 2-3 writers from "The Wire". No way in hell is it gonna be anything less than :whoo:

Bit of a :smugfavre: question

As the majority of brehs like Stephen Graham's portrayal of Capone, who do you all think has been the best British actor in a US Tv Show/Series.

No I have no problem understanding what I posted...They don't need the new subcribers to come from Boardwalk.. They need them to come from ANYTHING under the HBO/Showtime umbrella.. Because in a lot of cases you can't have one subcription without the other...

The fact that they can afford to continue to produce shows that aren't popular is because they are all pulling from the same huge pot..It's like television socialism...

If the economy sucks, people lose their jobs and can't afford premium cable period (which happens periodically) then of course shows that cost the most or aren't contributing to the pot will be on the chopping block...But it's rarely because people aren't watching a specific show.. It's because they are too broke to watch ANY premium cable.....

You never answered my question.. How many of the million viewers that you claim stopped watching between season 2 and 3 completely cancelled their subscription?

this is a interesting point, because HBO isn't ran off of ad revenue like Networks are so in theory if they wanted too, if HBO didn't lose any subscribers, Boardwalk could go on for as long as it needs too. I mean i never expected it to be as bit as the Sopranos...but i think its got legs still.

This all has been fukked up by the fact that Game of Thrones was such a smash hit. I don't think anyone could have predicted a prime time medieval/fantasy show would be as good as it is.

Treme i think got a terrible time slot, 10pm sunday :scusthov: Most people are on that getting kids ready for bed mode at that time. Not to mention its a jarring difference from Boardwalk. Treme seems like it woulda been perfect for like Wednesday at 9pm.

I wanna look up the stats of the 10pm shows on HBO...we all know sunday at 9 is the primo spot but the shows after? If they aren't doing well they need to rethink their scheduling.

goons in the cut tryna talk you out yo necklace
i dont be in this thread too much, and hexagram is my dude

but it is kinda annoying how everytime i come in here i see him shytting on the show just because there's no one dying every episode and Margaret is unlikeable

then you gotta go through pages of him arguing his point against a bunch of dudes who think different, then they mention Breaking Bad or some other show and it transforms into some whole other shyt

this season has been great to me, sure margaret's subplots have been dumb and overall she isn't a great character...but there's been so much other piff this season that i don't even mind so much, sometimes her segments are a necessary break from the meat of the story

it isnt like Harrow's story has been that enthralling since he shot Manny, Gillian had an entire ridiculous sequence about tricking some Jimmy lookalike into fukking her for a weekend and killing him, Van Alden and his Riiiiiicooooolaaaaaa wife weren't doing shyt for most of the season

to me this season is Nucky's; his spin out of control, his overindulgence, his isolation, his lowest possible moments and his eventual rise back to power...and on that end, it's been a fulfilling season

comparing it to other shows in here is futile and meaningless, and you don't have to constantly deride this show to make another you like more look better, especially when those shows suffer from many of the same inconsistencies, plotholes, bland and unlikeable characters, unnecessary and trivial subplots, and general fukkery that you constantly point out in here

it's more or less cluttering the thread for people who actually want to discuss it, which is part of the reason why i don't really post in here (another reason being spoilers)

:dwillhuh: That was said perfectly...if only you used your powers for good more often. :salute:
