Convenience and alternatives have really altered the landscape when it comes to the cinema. I also think people are much more economically cautious to go out and see something these days. Word of mouth is so valuable too, I go to the movies more than my friends so when they ask me how for example, Godzilla was, and I just go it was aight :manny: they usually decide to skip it, watch a stream or wait till it hits home media. In a time where for a lot of people money is tight and there’s more media options than ever, a lot of people will skip these big summer blockbusters, watch a YouTube review, and KIM and watch some shyt on Netflix or Hulu instead. Gonna be interesting times ahead to see how Hollywood adapts to that
I agree and not only that these movies hit video so fast these days, if you just wait a while you can see all these movies for cheap in the comfort of your own home.

Word of mouth thing is real too. I know a few people on this board said they liked Godzilla, my brother told me it was wack so I'll take his word for it and said nah I ain't wasting my money on that shyt either. That's all it took.

Yeah the ticket prices don’t help. The short video release window also ain’t helping. Captain marvel came out in March and was on digital in May I believe. Or early June? So if you wait 2 or 3 months you can avoid paying 12-18/ticket and watch it on your big screen from your couch

I'm noticing the before noon pricings are real good tho. So for now on I'm hitting up flicks that start before noon; tix are 5.69 through AMC and Harkins. No more matinee :mjcry:

Maaaan they said bye bye to matinee around these parts years ago. And the student discount only applies in certain places and even then, it’s not that big of a difference. Even amc went up a dollar for their Tuesday specials. And I’m still not entirely clear on why ticket prices have gone up so much. Is it tied to the money it costs to make the movies? Is it because theaters were recouping less on the backend?

yea looking at the other prices folks are quoting, might have to lower my recommendations down to $9.99 :pachaha:

I just got tix for a July 3 showing of Spider-Man at 730. $10. But if I went to a different theater with a bit more amenities, that price would increase by $2. Then if I went to an imax it probably shoots to $15. If I went to the Dolby surround sound auditorium, it’s now $18

past couple of times I've been to the theater, it's always been with other people and in IMAX, so prices are running up in the high $20s at least for me

Yup. Imax prices depend on the theater. It’s wild man. I’m cool with it cause I don’t have kids or anyone who has to tag along. But when my friends roll with me who are married and have kids? Yeah different story lol. My homie balked at that $18 price. Even tho it would be the better situation comfort wise

Nobody knows how to make a 90 minute film anymore.
this is an issue too, you can't ask for people to spend $15 per ticket and 3-3.5 hrs per movie...that's too much time and money. used to be you could see (sneak into) 2-3 movies in one day and only have spent ~3-5 hours at the theater, aint nobody putting in a work shift to see two movies :dead:
