They can but they ain’t. This is the way it is. The smaller movies either go to streaming services, go straight to VOD, or don’t get made. They make money on the blockbusters in order to afford to make smaller movies. And marketing now is a lot more expensive than it was 20 years ago. Everything is a lot more expensive than it was 20 years ago.
It actually isn’t given how easily you can target your demographic. Paid ads on social media is nothing, print advertising is cheaper than it used to be, ads on youtube are cheaper than tv, out of home is generally the same. You don’t need some burger king sponsorship and primetime abc commercials to let black folks know a new best man type movie is coming out.

Studios are lazy and you’ve bought what they’re selling

Possibly. But I’ve also seen the way consumers work and seen the ballooning costs of everything including theater space. I got no problem seeing something like when they see us on Netflix. Plus George Lucas and Spielberg called this shyt years ago. They saw it coming. There’s less space for microtargeted movies and independent theaters are drying or dying left and right.

I’m good with it. Movies as we know them won’t be the same anymore. That has pluses and minuses. And I don’t think it’s as simple as you’re making it out to be but hey maybe I don’t know any better:manny:

Hollywood Is in a Panic Again. Is This the Summer From Hell or Business As Usual?

The annual box office is down nearly 9 percent in 2019, despite the fact that for the first time since 1993 the average ticket price has fallen from the previous year. The industry is on pace to sell its lowest number of total tickets since ’92, the same year that the original Aladdin appeared in theaters

That ties back into that New York Times article. Summer or not summer, shyt is changing and will never be the same. Can’t forget Kumail and his homie giving that anecdote about the 25 year old who grew up on YouTube and has no desire to catch movies. Obviously that’s one story but wouldn’t be surprised if she’s not the only one who feels that way.

And Ava spoke on that as well. Delivery methods of content have changed. We can either get with the times or hold on to the old ways.

:russ: Man look, don't even get me started. I loved wrestling growing up. I still hold an infinity for the Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Mania. Vince just DGAF.
Haven't watched pro wrestling since middle school but the other day on youtube I was watching Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior from like 1992 or some shyt. Brought back some good memories.

Couldn't even imagine watching wrestling in these times at this age. :mjlol:
