At this point in the story bankai is no longer a supreme trump card, its what you need to use if you want to compete at all.

Ichigo is gonna beat a Quincy and the head guy. Then you got characters like the new captain commander and Uhara who are going to do something. Ichigo's dad may do something,
There are a lot of characters who need to show their power before we see Renji with numerous fights/wins.
