Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
Honestly the first black star album didn't live up to the hype when they were in their prime. This might have a few bangers but not expecting much. :hubie:

What do you think they could have done differently?

Imo, i think being on rawkus held them back. They were pandering too much to the underground, as a way to stay contrarian to the overly superthug shiit in new york or the shiny suit era music that was prevalent in the air waves.

That said, Black on Both Sides is one of the greatest albums ever (which kinda contradicts what i just said aboot BlackStar being on Rawkus).

I think Mos found his footing by the time he went solo. And it didnt hurt that the production was timeless/exemplary.

That album should have been triple plat.

Yes. Talib really stepped his game up and if for nothing more…MADLIB
if you looking for Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Blackstar Part II, no.

but if you looking for some great songwriting over Madlib beats, yes.

Album is great.
I will give it a try sometime this week. I'm afraid I'm going to be disappointed, that's why I haven't listened yet.

crazy how this album came out 24 years after their debut

it was well worth the wait.

i remember at first thinking, "how they not gone have Hi-Tek and 88 Keys on here producing"

much respect to both Hi-Tek and 88 Keys, but Yasiin and Kweli made the right decision to let Madlib produce the album.

you can tell they were in sync with each other on this shyt.

album is cohesive, not a single song feels out of place.

lyrics on point as well as the production.

production is raw as fukk on here.

Yassin had verse of the year on "My favorite band" too!

I think if you go in with an open mind and not stuck in 1998, you'll appreciate the album.

Yasiin and Talib are on point lyrically, Madlib at the top of his game.

it's a great album, bruh.

not a single song sounds out of place

album is all of 33 minutes, before you know it, the album has ended.

one of the best albums of 2022.

Nah, im saying don't go in expecting Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Blackstar Part II. Don't go in thinking it's going to sound just like that album.

like i said, Yasiin and Kweli are spitting, lyrics still sharp as ever and Madlib brings his excellence as always.

if you've been a fan of Blackstar and Madlib, you'll more than likely enjoy this album.
