i agree that its a generation thing but it's definitely more than background noise.

imo music is more important now than it ever has been.

Think about it...

People listen to music while driving, while they're at the club, while they're fukking, while they're cleaning the house, browsing the internet etc.

How many people just sit back and listen to music distraction-free?

So its pointless to lean on sales when the majority of black people steal music.

Everyone loves Waka and Gucci but they go triple wood every time they drop something on retail.

Any major selling hip hip album in the past 10 years can be contributed to white people being heavily interested in the project.

Does this really surprise you given that almost 80% of the people in this country are white?

True, we have a disproportionate amount of buying power compared to our share of the population, but if every adult black person bought Gucci's next CD, he'd barely go diamond.

Gucci & Waka are the Bricksquad for real.

Nobody buys their music cuz theres no difference between a studio album and a mixtape.

Dont put that all on Black people.

this is what I think is the real problem in rap music right here: there is no difference between the studio album and the mixtape ... and if there is its because the studio album is actually worse. This is now the new normal.

50 puts out album quality mixtapes every few months, when that album drops I'm expecting :ld:

its a problem that wont end tho. its basically impossible to get a cd out there without putting out hot mixtapes. but then there goes more than half of your good songs.

the music industry nowadays is a vicious cycle of trying to maintain relevance (which can disappear in a matter of months) and putting out good music.

major artists are expected to pump out 2-4 mixtapes and at least 1 studio album a year.

back in the day you'd have a rapper drop 1 album a year maybe every other year and it would all be quality material.

why would i spend my 10 bucks on a cd that doesnt even have the artists best music on it.

Its 2012, theres a lot of races and mixes of people in every major city across the country, Hip Hop has blown up to where everyone likes it from all walks of life. I think the generalizations are dead, on all sides.

Plus I think people should be more worried about if Latinos like their shyt. Its not just white people or black people making/breaking artists.

QUALITY MUSIC still SELLS...

ART sells... adeled 21 is DIAMOND....

if you put in the EFFORT and make SINCERE songs people can relate and identify with they will support you....

TALENT SELLS....

talentless rappers with that get by on "SWAG"/production will never have a CORE FANBASE that will BUY their albums...telling you in there own SONGS... i got all this money bytches im better than you shyt.... why would anyone BUY your shyt.???? common sense

Ayo it's not even a race thing, it's a gender thing. Women buy music, men don't. That's why country music sells well, it's why Adele is killing the charts, and it's why Drake/Wayne/etc sell. Men certainly buy some shyt, but you don't see any artists dominating thanks to male sales nahmean.

That's why everybody gotta be a singer now, and sensitive and all that shyt. I'm gonna support real nikkas like Roc Marciano till the cops get me, but that type of shyt isn't gonna move the charts
