As said in the other thread, John boyega or chiwetel ejiofor would be my pics. It might be a ill much for John as he's still young and inexperienced but it would be a good opportunity for him to shine.

Also what about Tony Mackie?

He's playing Falcon in the next Captain America movie.

t-dot till they bury me
How exactly does it not make sense? They can show T'Challa as a boy learning life lessons about leading and whatnots rom his pops and then show how Klaw killed T'Chaka which is how T'Challa became the new ruler of Wakanda and The Black Panther since that mantle has to be passed down from one BP to the next.
That way the movie can start with T'Challa already being in place as king and Black Panther.

i missed the part where you said Snipes = T'Challa's dad :manny:

ehh... at this point why would anyone expect anything of substance coming from Marvel or any of their licensed producers when it comes to black characters anyway? Like those TSC fellas say on their board, #itsnotsupposedtobegood

At the end of the day, they aren't and weren't going to give T'Challa his due regardless.

Remember how Blade did back to back 130+ milli in the box office? well what did they do in response? they still tried to marginalize him in his 3rd flick in favor of the white boy and white girl so they could throw Blade in the bushes and move forward in a spin off w/o him.

you have a person like idrissa akuna elba, and the first thing that comes to their mind isn't T'Challa... its "we need to typecast one of these vikings as a negro so that black people will buy tickets for thor..."

or with anthony mackie: "how can we get black people to watch cactain america? well, he does have a black friend doesnt he? Kinda like iron man does? lets see what that black guy from the hurtlocker is doing, he's good at being the side kick.."

so if it aint a black production company (and even then.. will smith's comp was credited for hancock.. so he must've greenlit that c00n shyt) or an actor like Denzel or Cheadle involved... its really whatever until i get more details, cuz i aint spendin money for some "oh heeey! they gotta blck person in there!!1!" happy to just be there crap

I feel your gripe.... But I think the main difference from Blade back then and making a BPanther now is Marvel 1 has FULL control vs that half portional power shyt ala Spiderman, F4, Xman, etc.

2 with so many more black actors today Im sure someone would do it justice as they wouldnt just look at this as another role but as an honor.

3 even if Marvel per say hated this character, its part of this universe, I'm confident for damn sure they would not want this to be the embarrassment of their franchises and of all the hardwork they just built

I appreciate the optimism (real talk i do) but thing is, marvel as a comic book company has been known to do a pretty shytty job with its black characters for a while now. Not to mention there was this tidbit a year or so back about Marvel's boss who is also Disney's 2nd largest shareholder, Ike Perlmutter:

Disney, Marvel In Damage Control Over Ike Perlmutter

FT story also reported that, when African-American actor Terrence Howard was replaced by African-American actor Don Cheadle in the role of Colonel Jim Rhodes for Iron Man 2, ”Perlmutter apparently told Mr. Mooney the change cut costs. He allegedly added words to the effect that no one would notice because black people ‘look the same’,” Garrahan wrote. A Marvel spokesperson told the FT in a statement: “Mr. Perlmutter and all of Marvel have a long record of diversity in the workplace and on movie sets around the world as evidenced by both Mr. Perlmutter’s own history and Marvel’s management team.”

what i'm getting at is its not about licensing control (marvel vs fox vs whoever), its about them cac'ting a fool when it comes to the black characters, and that happens regardless of who has the license. marvel's been about that bs, at this point it is what it is.

its also not about the black actors not feeling honored, but more so (and generally speaking here) that if a denzel or cheadle is involved the less likely it'll be a bs role (imo) b/c its not like they need the check like a no name actor would regardless of role. but that can become moot if its a black production company b/c at least then they aint lookin at it from a token oreo brother perspective regardless of who's cast (hopefully not).

and with your 3rd point, the people behind blade 3 didnt want to make that shyt an embarrassment per se (they wanted to use it as a vehicle for their agenda, to expand the universe etc), but that didn't change the fact that they made it into an embarrassment.

So i'm not saying thats exactly what Marvel will do, but i am saying i aint holding my breath thinkin that what has always walked talked and looked like a duck will all of a sudden not be a duck simply b/c thats what i'd like to happen

The opportunity to show a white man single handedly destroy an African Metropolis would be:ahh:+ :ohlawd: to them.

IMMIGRANT TETHERS
me personally, I'd rather they casted an unknown.

ala Chris Hemsworth with Thor. I think The Black Panther name alone and a well respected directed will be the reason alone for people to go and watch it.

If not then I won't mind Chiwetel Ejiofor or Djimon Housou.

Behind You
It's looking like Black Panther might possibly be in the next Avengers after all:

Anant Singh, the chairman of Cape Town’s film studios, was featured in a bulletin on the Cape Town radio station 5FM yesterday. His big reveal was that Marvel Studios have been in touch and are interested in filming some of the next Avengers film in the area.

It wasn’t entirely clear if this meant in the Cape Town studio facilities or on location, but I’d be very surprised if it isn’t the latter. Why go to Cape Town when you have a deal in place to use UK studio spaces?

We have been expecting Black Panther to be involved – it certainly looks like casting is underway – and Singh’s comments would seem to translate into yet more evidence.

T’Challa, the Black Panther, comes from the nation of Wakanda but, well, there’s no real Wakanda to go film in, for one thing, and what’s more, South Africa has regularly been part of his stories.

At this point, I’d be more surprised if the character isn’t featured. This will make three new superpowered characters for the film – Black Panther, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch – with who knows how many more to follow. I wonder how big their roles will be?

And I wonder if any of them, particularly T’Challa, will get their own standalone movies afterwards.

Everything you typed was spot fukking on sir...

The only two things I would even remotely counter (and not really counter, just an observation) is that One, even though I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the token black character being included in some "We're here too! Yippeee" vibe I WOULD say that at least in the case of Captain America, The Falcon is a much respected character throughout the Marvel universe. He's not even considered a sidekick of CA more so a partner and colleague in the comics, he even co-starred with CA in their own title for awhile, so I don't see the casting of that character as a "token" per say and regarding how the movie and his potrayal are represented in the movie might be a good second step in diversifying the universe (the first being Rodey)

Secondly, like another poster already said, I highly doubt Marvel would want to fukk up their cash cow universe by deliberately making a shytty Black Panther movie, which unfortunately is why I think they won't be bothered to actually MAKE a standalone BP flick. BP is a noble, independent, intelligent and charismatic King ho takes shyt from NO ONE and I don't think ANY studio would really want to portray such a rich black character without the aforementioned A-list of Will Smith or a proven box office commodity. They'd rather make a goddamn Dr.Strange or Guardians Of the Galaxy movie than invest heavily in the "risk" of Black Panther. Which is sad indeed

Really going to be an uphil struggle to get the Black Panther that we deserve IMO. I'd much rather they focused on other characters than taint the BP mythos by making him anything less than he we expect him to be.
