If you watch their TV shows and movies they really prop up the white looking Mexicans and ignore their natives and black people.

Our genetics are all screwed up. My moms side are fair skinned and some of my cousins are essentially white with colored eyes, whereas my dads side are all native looking. It’s not unusual to have siblings that are genetically related and yet they look nothing alike.

And racism in Mexico is nothing new. The zapatistas in Oaxaca are indigenous farmers that live in their own autonomous zones. They had to fight for that, though. Frida kahlo’s work was punctuated with social commentary and the reality of those that embraced their native heritage and how divorced from society they were. That’s the legacy of euro culture.

That’s wild, I can’t lie though, before seeing city of god I didn’t even think black folks was in Brazil. Everything I seen before was white folks or light skinned people that look white.
