Nah brad Pitt. A white man decided to bankroll important movies about black history not a brother.
You know Jennifer Aniston is his partner in that right? So let's cool off on that narrative like he is this pillar of virtue fighting for the cause. He might have been the most notable producer but I doubt he was the only one

Homie I'm not saying he's a pillar of virtue I'm using him as an example and saying its him as opposed to cube or spike or will. Obviously I don't know all the reasons and behind the scenes info but it was just an example

:usure: Jennifer Aniston hasn't been a partner in the studio since they spilt in 2006.

But there are avenues to us now that Townsend didn't have. I just named a handful of black producers with their own companies. Why don't they pick up the films? I'm not knocking cube for it but just using him as an example: as opposed to having cubevision produce barbershop 3 why not produce a movie with some new talent or just talent on the fringe? That's how Dope got its wide release; puffy and pharell and I'm sure someone else who's name I'm forgetting, hopped on and decided to contribute money to the cause

And Dope just got 6 mil at the box office. :mjcry:

A lot of it aside from whatever racial component we can throw at it, has to do with money and notoriety. Magic mike featured a big name star and was directed by an Oscar nominated director and was backed by a big studio. Same with the Zane movies vs fifty shades, except fifty shades was also the movie version of a book that's a legitimate phenomenon around the country. It's the same argument you find on film blogs and amongst film journalists of why can't more people see movies like no country for old men or there will be blood rather than seeing the the fancy shiny blockbuster.

Cause Brad got those resources

It ain't too many big name black producers

Strike true. But when they do have the resources, like Tyler perry, we get more movies in the vein of a BET movie of the week rather than a prestige flick or just something different. Tyler has his own production company and can write his own check to do any movie he wants. And no diss to what he does make because there's obviously an audience for it and he knows that, but he could extend beyond that brand because he's got clout and is damn near independent. He could go to Steve McQueen and make some thought provoking flicks

Ava seems like she really wants to broaden the scope of what a "black" film can be and the type of roles we can do and movies we can make and I salute the hell out of her for that and will probably buy a ticket to anything she makes

:francis: Don't forget about the TV shows Tyler Perry & his studio produces. The current TV shows he has on OWN & TLC are :trash::trash::trash::trash::trash:. Don't nobody even talk about them & most black people don't know they exist.
