Late as fukk here, but
I'm mad at myself for putting off watching this for as long as I did. Watched the whole series in 3-4 weeks. The show's darkness is amazing yet so unsettling. The parallels that it has to real life is fukking scary to be honest because I can really picture it happening to an extent. It does a terrific job of highlighting the ills and concerns of technology at its current trajectory and also creates some interesting dynamics associated with it.
Favorite 5 Episodes (In No Particular Order):
1.
Hated In the Nation - Such a well-crafted episode that felt like it could be its own movie. Really love the connotation it made with the online hate people spew recklessly, without realizing the energy they're putting out there will only come back to them. And I just love that concept because I kinda live by it. A reminder to always be mindful of what you post online no matter how harmless you think it may be.
2.
White Christmas – The best storytelling of the series I’ve seen thus far. The buildup of the atmosphere in this episode was incredible. You actually feel empathy for the guy when you see how he came to be who he was. Imagine being blocked from seeing what you believe to be your spouse and child for no reason and not being able to do anything about it. Finding out the kid wasn’t yours
Breh snapped. Then the whole cookie concept with how you’ll be tortured like a lab rat for eternities.
3.
15 Million Merits – I was thrown off by the weird environment that it took place in and it had me wondering what it could be. A game show? A prison? A place for the underclass of society?
This type of setting would surely drive a person insane. It’s symbolic of the crabs in a barrel mentality where people will literally sell their souls to escape it. The ether in his soul seeing ol’ girl getting demoralized when he once saw her as a precious jewel to genuinely be invested in. Seeing the innocence leave her eyes
Only for him to succumb as well in the end.
4.
The Entire History Of You – Breh’s detective game was
The little shyt he was noticing that made you go
All around a spectacular episode that just left me astounded. The thought having your entire life on video for you to see and experience whenever you wanted is both an intriguing but miserable concept. Just a reminder that maybe ignorance is bliss and everything shouldn’t be able to be revisited. Leave the past in the past.
5.
San Junipero – This episode probably touched me the most out of all of the episodes. I love the 80’s theme present throughout the story. It gives you a perspective of time and encourages you live it up while it’s your time and appreciate it (Advice I need to take myself) Everyone was once young before growing old with regrets. The sadness of their stories paralleled in a way which formed into a bond that transcended time. It was nice that Yorkie having been paralyzed, who never had a chance to enjoy her life because of the time she came up in and her family’s beliefs, finally found someone in Kelly to be happy with despite their imminent deaths. If you’re a spiritual person who believes in souls you would like this episode.
Other than that an amazing series and will be looking forward to more episodes in the future
