Make sure you document everything you’ve done at the company
See, I don't do this and forget have the shyt they make me do with no extra compensation.
Thanks for the reminder
Make sure you document everything you’ve done at the company
100% factsThey expect you to be docile and forever grateful and "know your place." You walk around with your head high and your chest out because you're naturally a confident, dignified man... that's a problem
I was taught to dress for the job that you want, not the job that you have.
They moved my office to the corner end of the building away from the rest of my department. I'm the only one in my department on a separate floor than everyone else with an office to myself. They're on the 12th floor, I'm on the 14th. Like an adult corporate version of the time-out corner except with an office and a salary. Moved my black ass out to the wasteland.
Don't know - I probably do have a problem with authority and conformity. I need no meaningless interruptions and need to fully concentrate. So I think they figure, just let her be and do her thing, give her own space to be antisocial in. They know that I have a reputation for doing good work, efficiency and managing my own time but I've been here long enough that they know the personality clashes. I don't do all that officey poly-ing shyt either. Just got a promotion this month that I wasn't expecting, i'm the only black female in this position though but where I work is diverse so it's not like there's this heavy overlying racial element here - I can say that. Definitely not the only "face" in the room. There are black males at my job in good positions - mostly in finance and accounting, IT Support. I know for a fact one is a c00n but the rest are regular every day type of dudes who worked their way up. They just do their job and go home. No funny shyt.
Not so much conformity, but I was always told that appearance means a lot and is impactful. Regardless of how you feel on the inside, never let your outside reflect that. Do the best with the resources that you have and I don't play when it comes to having work standards for myself and have a strong work ethic. I'm cordial with them, but I think they know I don't play all those corporate games and networking b.s., Reached the point where I don't have the energy for it. Let me do my training, take whatever courses to keep updated, attend the meetings and let me do my work - no small talk or banter. My job is mostly researching and analyzing data anyway- I don't need to be a people person or be in a positon to interact with people on the daily.
Nope not at all. I’m me 24/7. It helps that I’ve pretty much always had black folks higher than me tho
There’s a lot of unemployed 6 figure earners and nothing is guaranteed. Those same people who you think that you’re “higher” then will be the same people you have to deal with on your way down. Life can get real uncomfortable, real fast- that STEM degree can protect you if you don’t humble yourself- you get sick or a life altering circumstance, illness that can mess up your trajectory and make you a less viable candidate.I'm glad I don't have deal with this shyt being in IT. STEM employees aren't easily replaceable so we don't have to put up with this shyt. I'm an even bigger a$$hole at work than I am on the the Coli.
Good luck Supervisor breh's trying to replace my ass for refusing to play ball. I'll have another job in a couple of weeks.
I don’t kiss nobody’s ass I just work hard and it’s served me well. Plus I’m a man of my word and I got ambitionThe boss where I work is a black man and these whites, Indians and Asians kiss his ass. Nothing is wrong with playing the game
dont let play that are unemployed and work warehouse jobs tell you otherwise
Small talk is easier than you think breh.....Im trying...but it just aint in me....i wanna be a suit and tie bidness man like Stringer did.....but im just not....breh pointed out the importance of small talk in corporate America....and he may be right....because i tend to be a straight shooter in real life so i really fukkin hate small talk.
But i see my homie who is good at it prospering up here and im proud that he found his niche, i try to emulate him and it works for a while but i cant keep up the act
Its just not in me....
He made a lot of good points
A lot of brehs do shoot themselves in the foot over trivial issues (long hair, excessive facial hair, clothing etc)
But I cant be the only one who feels it’s exhausting and draining to be around cacs all day & have to play “their game”. Dont get me started on the happy hours, “networking” (aka pretending to like & talk about winter sports, golf and shyt like that), and “power lunches”.
On the other hand if u play their game long enough, u can be in a position to help and put on other black people in positions in power to fortify ur position.
What are ur thoughts on playing the game? Is it worth it?
Exactly, all i really need is capital, but I feel like I could be running shyt.Guysss guyss. I made 130k last year in the corporate space. I'm the only black man in my damn office.
But I also opened a business early last year and made about 7k profit. This year I expect to make much more. I got a meeting with a Nigerian Business man next week at 4am EST which is 10a in Lagos.
Moral of the story is get your skills in corporate, become a star then start your own business. I don't give a damn about my current corporate job.
I feel like everyone around me is a dummy for the most part. I'm a CEO brehs.
nikka you clearly ain’t know basic shyt out here rocking french braids in “elite” law school.
you for real.I forgot you dudes know of each other of site
There is no real loyalty in Corporate America though. I've seen people who we're model employees that still got shafted after a change in ownership. Or the company went through some hard times. And the stats show that companies reward job hoppers over everyone else. They've shown time and time again they don't respect loyalty. I'm just giving them a taste of their own medicine. There’s a lot of unemployed 6 figure earners and nothing is guaranteed. you for real.
