JUSTICE FOR JONATHAN FERRELL who was fatally shot and killed by police officer, Randall Kerrick after being in a terrible car accident in Charlotte, N.C. After surviving the terrible car accident, Jonathan approached the nearest house pounding on the door asking for help. The woman who answered the door was frightened and decided to call 911 and hit her alarm panic button indicating that a home invasion was in progress. When the police arrived, Jonathan approached them asking for help but instead, one of the officers unsuccessfully fired a stun gun at him. When that did not subdue him, officer Kerrick opened fire on Jonathan, shooting him 10 times killing him at the scene. Last Tuesday, grand jurors in N.C. decided that there will be no indictment for Randall Kerrick for voluntary manslaughter. This is a perfect example on how white life in protected in America. We live in a country where its a life threatening act to ask for help from the people who are put in place to “protect and serve”

Alan Blueford was murdered by Oakland police officer Miguel Masso on May 6, 2012 in an incident of racial profiling. Alan and his 2 friends where walking home when officer Masso and his partner decided to stop the young men. Alan then fled on foot and was chased down by Masso who shot him 3 times in the back and also shot himself in the foot. Several witnesses said that Alan had no gun and posed no threat to the officer when shot to death. The facts of the case have never measured up to the several versions of the story that the OPD have provided. Miguel Masso has since been cleared of any wrongdoing. It was just weeks before Alan Blueford’s high school graduation when he was executed by the OPD. His last words where, “..I didn’t do anything..”

REMEMBER OSCAR GRANT who was murdered 5 years ago on NYE by an OPD officer at an East Oakland BART station platform. Since then, the shooter Johannes Mehserle was sentenced to 2 years in prison in which only 11 months were served.

Justice for Eric Garner who was choked to death by NYPD officers on July 17th in Staten Island, NY. After breaking up a fight, Garner was approached by several officers that attempted to arrest him on suspicion of selling untaxed cigarettes. When trying to take down Garner, officer Daniel Pantaleo placed an illegal choke hold on him which caused him to stop breathing and die several minutes later. The police officers nor the responding emergency service workers did anything to aid him while laying lifeless on the floor. The whole incident was caught on videotape which went viral and has ignited a call to end racial profiling and police brutality against people of color. The killing of Eric Garner has been shortly followed by the killing of unarmed John Crawford in Ohio, Ezell Ford in LA, and Michael Brown in Ferguson. After having witnessed the militarized police response to protesters in Ferguson, we all must figure out a way to take back control of our militarized police departments and hold officers accountable when they cross the line. This portrait is of young Eric in high school. He died at the age of 43. His last words where, “I can’t breathe…”

On Saturday, a Ferguson, Missouri police officer shot and killed an unarmed young black man by the name of Michael Brown. Michael was walking down the street with his friend when a police officer pulled over and asked them to get on the sidewalk. After the teenagers dismissed the officer’s request, he began to scuffle with Michael from out his patrol car. When Michael tried to run away, the officer fatally shot Michael several times despite his hands being raised in the air as a universal sign of non aggression and surrender. The incident has caused several protests and looting in Ferguson but the real story is the unjust killing of another black man in this country by police. This comes on the heels of the killing of Eric Garner and John Crawford. It has become a daily occurrence where police in this country are involved in the killing and harassment of innocent civilians. The police mantra is to “serve and protect”, but it seems apparent that when dealing with black people it is to “kill or be killed”. There is a real war being waged by the system on black and brown communities and it is time to stop turning the other cheek and start responding with rage.
