tell me what you think the privileges they have and I will tell you if I think they have them because I already said I don't think they do in relation to my concept of privilege. You can't compare black men to white male privilege . You can't compare African American men to African or Caribbean men either.

African American men, due to their unique history, do not have the same type of privilege as a black African from a majority black society with a black history. Maybe I should be clear that I am speaking from an African American perspective about African American men.

Do black men have power within their own community in the USA? No, because you can't separate the idea of privilege from race in THIS country. To say black men have privilege for being male is an oversimplification of the issue and if you fail to see that when people talk about privilege in this country and in this context, it is related to race, just like when they talk about black women disenfranchisement there is always a race component. Any privilege they have is muted by their inability to establish their own in this country, and frankly to be seen as people.

I ask again, what privileges do black males have in their community ,and what communities are you speaking of?
ok i see your point.
i think its counterproductive to compare AA men to foreign men as well.
im just curious how we can say all this then say we should switch to traditional gender roles when black men have a harder time getting jobs and education. To pretend that black men are hopeless victims is counter productive as well, they are capable of success. we just have to use different methods and learn to use their privilege in their best interest.

Likewise. "Uh I know I haven't created an economy for you to prosper in or an army to protect you but follow me anyway"
They shouldn't follow us they should fellowship with us.

Black women should be trying to create economies and means of warfare and protection
just as black men should

And attacking black males for the atrocities committed against them is the lowest of the low.

You sir are a piece of crap and probably have an inferiority complex

i wonder if all the "Pro Black" women on this site is going to take this idiot to task

The only "black male privilege" comes from the regular male privilege.

Oh yeah, and I guess we can say "white people can't dance" without getting that much criticism.

Other than that, fukk off. Call me when cops are treating other races as bad as blacks that much.

Males don't have privilege.

White people; male & female do.

But men don't

We kind of do though........

One instance is how a guy fails at something important, no one will hold that against all men and say something like "lol, look at all those dumb men, they can't do anything"..

Basically, just look at some of the stuff on this list:

http://amptoons.com/blog/the-male-privilege-checklist/

not all of it true, but the ones that are true are pretty important.

- there's no black male privilege
- there's more evidence of black female privilege
- if black women were black men, they'd face more discrimination

black women may have more jobs but black men make more on average than black women so thats not really a privileged per say. Black men are also favored over black women in society so they actually have an easier time and studies have proved this. Black men are seen as cool(by many) not thugs as many of you would like to believe and black women have to deal with racism on top of sexism non stop. In my debate class many of the white and hispanic students said there inspirations were black men(malcom x, tupac) no one mentioned a black woman, except a black woman. she said her inspiration was oprah. Black women have it much harder from my observation in there communities and out of them from my perspective.

Black female privilege

-higher chance to get a job
-less likely to get harassed by police
-less likely to be murder, and damn near every violent crime
-overall control of the black community, and ability to structure future generations of black community through child-bearing and dating choices.
-more sympathy toward your plight.

Who has sympathy towards black women plight? EVERYONE goes in on BW, even when they discuss there problems among black men you guys tell them to shut up and get over it. Black women get harassed by cops(white cop beating black woman head into the ground) and are the most murdered women in america. black women have no privilege, black men make wayyyyy more money than black women on average even though more are employed.

here we go with the "cool" argument. :dead: i swear alot of this shyt boils down to raw jealousy. black men have been traditionally promoted more in the media (that we dont own or control) fine, i get that, but that's not a privilege, i'm talking about something tangible. yeah, we can assimilate easier at parties or social functions; but when it comes time for employment or being penalized through the justice system -- all that cool shyt gets thrown out the window.

Black men and men in general work longer hours, take less days off and work more dangerous jobs

If a man and a woman worked the same job for the same hours and neither of them has employee
seniority over the other they would get the same pay

And black males actually die of stress related inflictions due to racism at a higher rate than black women (white men do as well, go figure) and i take it you already know about police gleefully using us for target practice

Sexism goes both ways and it's far greater and far more excused when inflicted on men

Do you think these are BS?

  • If I’m a teen or adult, and if I can stay out of prison, my odds of being raped are relatively low.
  • I will never be expected to change my name upon marriage or questioned if I don’t change my name.
  • Every major religion in the world is led primarily by people of my own sex. Even God, in most major religions, is pictured as male.
  • I will never be expected to change my name upon marriage or questioned if I don’t change my name.

This

At least black guys are starting to be seen as handsome in the media nowadays, as where black women are only seen as "pretty" if they have light skin or "white features".

C'mon breh. Black men catch this same shyt.

I mean sometimes I feel privileged in a room full of women. I feel listened to and have sexual agency a lot of women don't, but black women also get some advantages I don't get as a black man. I just have a problem when people ignore the black part and just link me to male privilege. There are definite instances where being a male harms me because I am also black. I always thought the double minority label was extra basic. As if someone looks at people in parts and not as a whole. Nobody sees a black male as a male and gives them male privilege, we are treated as black men always.
