The hope is that by changing ourselves we will be in a better position to represent our race in individual circumstances, and in time, create a new outlook on the black community. Overwhelming the bad apples with the surge of actual change.

It's a problem of perception VS. reality. If you get your view of black people from MTV, tommy sotomoyor, and worldstar. Then sure you'll have a negative outlook on black people. But in reality those images are nothing like the average black person. The average black person is middle class hard working American, just like every other race. In my opinion the only thing we can do to kill these stereotypes is to protest the networks/websites that push this agenda.

I can't really be the first person to realize this is a fictitious made up article?

Shawn C. Booker is a PhD/Journalism student currently enrolled at Emory University with an interest in race relations and history. He is currently researching for a book that explores the effects of the internet and jordans on black people :childplease:

I think he's arguing against exactly what you're saying right here.

I think :patrice:
No, what he's(you) arguing is that there's black people and there's ******s, and he(you) doesn't want to be lumped in with the ******s.

:mindblown: This damn article is all over the place...

I agree with the concept of individualism, but in reality thats not gonna stop anyone from grouping us in with other black people...

I do feel like we are headed in a bad direction though, the sense of the "black community" is disappearing. Black Businesses are disappearing. So much racism within our race.

But I don't think embracing a crabs in a barrel mentaility is the answer either. That part of the reason we have so much Black on Black crime and brothers killing other brothers over bullshyt and a few dollars... My thing its room for everybody to prosper and separating our selves from each other is the LAST thing we need to do

Here, here to an actual movement to improve the black image. :salute:
I think there's a business in this and this is something that will have to be carried through For Us By Us.

And why should all black people be lumped together?

I'm pretty sure that is what the author is getting at. Then again I never said I agree with the author, that's just my reading of it bra :manny:

I agree with the article somewhat. I think you should align yourself with people who have similar goals as yourself. Depending on the people you know, that may leave you by yourself.

What I Find Even Funnier From The Article Is it'S implying That Black Folks Need to Change Who They Are To Be Accepted But On The Same Token To Accept The Gay Community For Who They Are :skip:
