Seriously though. It bothers you that much? Is it just a religious thing or...?

.

Do me not supporting a lifestyle I find appalling really preventing them from being happy? Does my sole opinion weigh that much on the gay community that they are unable to find happyness :heh:

Come on breh, they can live whatever lifestyle they choose I won't support it bc I find it a perversion of sexuality, why do they need my approval :beli:

Stupid article. He goes on to say how blacks have constantly improved our standing in society, then he immediately pivots to "black people will perish" "sky is falling" rhetoric siting tommy sotomayor and Nike shoes as proof :mindblown:

That's a good point. I guess personally they don't need your approval, but for some reason, they need the approval of whatever principality they live in just to have the same rights as everyone else. And your approval, and my approval, and whatnot drives a lot of that.

I was more approaching it from a "who cares" standpoint. I agree gay sex would be difficult to watch, and so the extent to which I let it invade my life is that I choose not to watch gay porn. But there's people (not saying you) out here actively rallying against homosexuals having equal marriage rights and stuff. That's the perspective I find weird. Like, who the fukk cares. :manny: Anyway.

I agree with you.

But I sorta read it as if the black community didn't adopt the route that the author was suggesting, and continuing down the path that he sees as detrimental, then the black community will be in even greater trouble.

In my opinion it's a breakdown of logic. Black people being who we are got us this far, yet people like this author want to promote the idea that black people being who they are will cause us to perish.

Which is it? During the same time of this "breakdown of culture" people like to promote, we have been constantly improving our standing in society. I understand there are problems in the poor comunity but our trajectory as a whole has been positive for a long time now.

i agree with his general point (although i don't like the way he broke it down and his examples). Part of the reason other people view us all as the same with no individuality is because we put that pressure on ourselves. Once we stop viewing ourselves as representatives of our whole race maybe the rest of the world will start to respect our individuality. But then maybe this "collectiveness" is comforting because it spreads responsibility. Not everyone is comfortable with being an individual and feeling 100% responsible of their destiny (success or failiure)...

:patrice: he makes a few points but for the most part this just sounds like a nikka that wishes he can criticize without being criticized in return. i think blacks already have a crabs in the barrel mentality and it AINT a good thing... i thought he woulda touched on that, how doing such and such would make someone "white". its this same kinda groupthink thats the cause of all the shyts he listed as problems, those are the kinds of things hindering growth among us personally but he talking bout how we apparently need to get at the obamas and shyt :what:

The problem with this argument is that "other" races are not going to look at us individually. People who know us will look at us as individuals, but those who do not can only rely on the stereotypes that are perpetuated by what they see in the media.

So even though we aren't responsible for one another, we represent each other in the sense that when we walk into the room, we hold the weight of our race on our shoulders.

Obama isn't looked at as an individual. He's looked at as a black president. If he fails, there will probably never be another black president.

And whether you subscribe to this is irrelevant, because this is what it really is.

The hope is that by changing ourselves we will be in a better position to represent our race in individual circumstances, and in time, create a new outlook on the black community. Overwhelming the bad apples with the surge of actual change.
