KD is one of the scariest players I've ever had to watch but I was a Magic stan and I dont think I've hated a player more than Bird. That cracker can snatch your soul without scoring.

I think Bird's defense is overrated, but even with that I'd place him higher in All-time rankings.

Also both of them played for stacked teams. KD was teammates with MVP's such as Curry, Harden and Westbrook who were all in their prime years with KD. Then you also add other hall of famers such as Klay, Kyrie, CP3, even Booker will end up in hall of fame. Clearly KD was not surrounded by some bums lol.

KD had a shooting guard type of game on a 190lb frame at that time. He actually had the advantage over perimeter players.

The Bullets won the championship in ‘78 the year prior the Celtics drafted Bird. And lost in the finals year Bird was drafted. If he was drafted by the Bullets like you said, then they would’ve probably won the next 5 seasons.

The Celtics were 29-53 the year before they drafted Bird.

1979–80: After Bird joined the team, the Celtics improved to 61–21, the best regular season record in the league. Bird also won Rookie of the Year. With NO key acquisitions at all. Same roster as the prior year.

The next season, they won the chip.

Bird was a team changer without “super team” type of teammates.

Fair. I was just trying to name a random organization that wasn’t the Celtics. I don’t think he’d win as much on his “own” is my point.

KD slightly better scorer. Bird better passer, rebounder, all around player, tougher mentally and physically. Bird never got on the phone with Magic/Kareem, Moses/Dr J, and Isiah, and asked to join their teams.
This isn't completely fair to KD.

Now, look, he did play on some formidable teams with great talent, but he was extremely unfortunate with the way his tenure in OKC played out:

- Made a Finals run in 2012 (aged 23), but ran into arguably the greatest player of all-time, at his peak
- Lost in the second round in 2013 because Westbrook was injured and had to rely on K-Mart and Reggie as his running mates
- Lost in the WCF in 2014 to the NBA Champion Spurs (one could argue this was one of their best iterations)
- Injured in 2015
- Lost in the WCF in 2016 to a 73-win Warriors squad, who needed superhuman efforts from Steph and Klay (I still maintain if OKC had won that series they would've won the championship).

Essentially, his playoff career in OKC comprised of coming up against some the greatest teams of the modern era. That's all that really stood between him and a championship, shyt, even multiple championships.

Bird isn't beating the 2012 Heat, or the 2014 Spurs or the 2016 Warriors. Bird didn't beat one team during his Championship runs that was on the same level as any of those three teams. He had multiple hiccups against worse competition during his career too.

Interesting that nobody has brought up KD anchoring Team USA to Gold in four Olympics (a feat that won't be replicated in our lifetime). That carries a whole lot of weight in this conversation, and not just what they did in the NBA.

KD better player and Bird greater all-time

Like in a magic vs Bird comparison, I got Bird as the better player but Magic higher all-time.

This is basically where I stand on both comparisons.

KD is one of the hardest players to rank, because his final form is up there with anyone and he's had sustained success, yet his resume doesn't measure up to the players in and around the top-5 convo - some of it is down to his own shortcomings and some of it is down to an outlier of bad luck.

And if he had modern training methods.

He used to drink sprite every summer. Imagine that white boy with some electrolytes in him. MJ may not have as many rings.
This.

Bird took fukking Indiana STATE to the Final Four....not the Hoosiers, the Sycamores.

I'd give KD the edge on scoring but Bird is a little better at everything else. Plus, even MJ and Magic said Larry was one of the GOAT trash talkers. He could ball and knew how to get in your head.
