Nah you are very right about the "lifestyle"...

It seems some of these outta towners wanna be uncomfortable or come from "dead" areas of the country...

I've seen Cacs living in hoods that I dont even wanna be in:dwillhuh:...

Most people gotta game the system at some level to get by...

That's why I always wondered if those people end up becoming permanent residents or is NYC just a transient place. It's hard to tell some people from out of town go to college in NYC and want to stay. Some just be on some "finding myself" type of vibe just move there on a whim and just put up with the level of discomfort because they don't want to go back home and give the people who probably warn them about moving a reason to say they were right. BUt from my experienced I have encountered the latter a lot more in terms of people just moving on a whim to go on some self-discovery journey that's why they tolerant of some suspect neighborhoods or living in a closet and trying to make ends meet just to make rent.

NY ain't no joke.

These rich folks spend like the celebrities, but there is no paparazzi to show their lavish expenditures. My sister's friend's husband is loaded. International banking. Never met him. Condo on the West Side. He's always away on business. Their home was really nice. Not lavish and crazy. They buy $200+ outfits for their baby like it's $30 to you and me.

Um nah, celebs, especially those who aint even in the 8 figure and up bracket, try spending like the truly wealthy. These are people with hundreds of millions to billions of generational wealth, hedge fund, private equity guys who make hundreds of millions to over a damn billion per year. Like legit liquid hundred millionaires/billionaires, not just net worth/paper billionaires. Run of the mill celebs - athletes, artists, actors, etc - are living nice no doubt (well the ones who are legitimately caking - mariah carey, madonna, jay z, lebron, george clooney, etc), but they're not in the sphere of the folks who are truly at the top of the food chain.

Makes sense I remember watching a documentary a while back about Vancouver specifically being one of the most expensive cities to live in terms of housing. In addition to that, the executive of Huawei (the chinese electronics company) who was arrested in Canada waiting to be extradited to the US agreed to put one of her homes in Vancouver as part of her $10 million dollar bail. That's crazy.

But all this highlights how unbearable and expensive some cities in North America can be. In NYC, you do not get value for your dollar and the quality of life is poor for working class and middle class. You have to fight for everything from a seat on the train to a housing lottery to get decent "affordable" housing but seems everybody from all over wants to live there, its going to be that way for a while.

I love NYC, but man I'd seriously think of moving if I was lower/middle class there. Cost of living is so high, then you look at Houston or Atlanta and housing is so much cheaper. They're not NewYork City but still decent cities to live in.

Vancouver is hell apparently where the housing is way outpacing salaries. 1 bedroom condo downtown like $700K. Scooped up by Chinese. They're everywhere.

Toronto is catching up too. Average $ can't afford to live here. Average detached home price is over $1M. That goes for Toronto and surrounding areas. Condos average over $500K. That's for a tiny 500 sqft box. Rent for a 1 bed is $2200. Average salary here I believe is $50K.

Now add a kid, you're not affording anything here. So the city is more and more turning into a spot for the rich and wealthy. Sad. I need to get the fukk outta here. We spend too much on our crib and I'm no longer about that downtown life...Going to bars, clubs, etc no longer appealing. I don't like all the grime. But lowkey paying a premium for all that. So wtf am I here for?

Too far from home. Only city in my radar is DC or Philly. Philly pretty affordable. DC is expensive but a tad bit cheaper

Yea, if you have to be on the East coast yea, I like Philly a lot actually. Haven't been back in a while though. But Boston and NYC great cities to visit but couldn't live there if I wasn't making stupid money.

I was actually checking Boston rent the other day. Honestly the listings looked pricier than NYC rent (doubt it really is). Just randomly scrolling through with no specific neighborhood in mind.

Billionaires are pretty much members of the shadow government.Once you surpass 100 million you can pretty much rub shoulders with some very powerful people and build connections.
And if you want to make power moves you need those type of connections.
I have said this and I will say it again.Rap money is not long money and a lot of rap dudes who are not investing wisely are going to end up like mc hammer.
