No he’s right. That’s why they started filling them with heart throbs instead of muscle bound dudes. That’s why they started putting “strong female characters” in every damn movie. And also making the revenge always about their lady.

To appeal to more women. And the numbers still ain’t close. 52% of tickets are sold to women but only 22% of women find action movies to be their favorite.

The stance isn't 'women dont like action' its action = an american thing. If it was a woman thing he wouldn't have to bring up his wife being a foreigner. I've been around the world, family all over the world, seen Action movies in every country i've been damn near and them bytches be packed.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Exactly my point though. Focus on gun laws, not on entertainment content.
that wasn’t the point of the video though…

The point was Hollywood has time to cry over every other thing. They have to shoehorn agendas in every 15 minutes and remove anything that might offended some 14 year old girl in Idaho…..

But then go apeshyt on gun violence and vigilantism every chance they get while saying “it doesn’t affect anything”

Even the people here who like to pretend "it doesn't affect anything" switch their stances up when that content contains homosexuality, we got endless threads right here on the coli about LGBT agendas being promoted in media and why its problematic.

Fictional gun violence is lit, people are missing his point though, this seems entirely sarcastic to me.

edit: after further watching, it sounds like he might be serious, thats fukking stupid, censoring art isn't the solution to gun violence, I hate what this world is becomng
That dummy only brings up the art analogy, because he’s an entertainer and what he is familiar with.

Probably also refers to stand up comedy as a “craft” in his spare time

Actually on this same show, he shytted on comics that demean the audience. So even in standup, he feels that certain shyt is low class

I think violent films and games are a pressure release for most people. Its a fantasy - fighting bad guys, righting the wrongs of the world etc.

In some rare cases they may have an influence on people who are already predisposed to violence and mental issues, but for most people they're harmless.

That being said, we could make a lot more films about other stuff, and less violent ones and I wouldn't be upset. They don't make good action films these days anyway.

Theres an overall fetishization of guns in America that you don't see in other countries, and a lot of films play into that, but I don't think its the root of the problem.

Maher is just running out of shyt to say.

This is why I love conversing in spaces where there's a historical record we can revisit to watch people try and have it both ways.

So essentially they think having gay people in movies is an agenda (which it is but its due to the fact that 90% of actors, singers and dancers and people of that background are zesty, what do you expect?) and think they're being hypocritical by not also be political about guns/violence in movies (which isn't actually true, illustrated best by the entire anti-war film genre) Realistically is just peoples tastes they're complaining about.

Correct. This is more of a hypocrisy speech.

At some point he rifled off all the things you can’t put in movies anymore and then asked, so why can’t we talk about this (guns)? You can’t fat shame in a movie but you can kill 30 people for a dog

Even so,
Teenage boys are exposed more to violent first-person shooter games than R-rated movies.

He’s completely gone off the rails. A decade ago he would have laughed his ass off at attempts to tie gun violence to Hollywood.
He rails against cancel culture and wokeness and then fixes his mouth to saw some dumb shyt like this. Full blown libertarian (read: I’m a republican but don’t appreciate the label) values on display
