Consumerism in hip hop started from the beginning, way before hova sold his first nickel bag.

THE SUGARHILL GANG LYRICS

"Rapper's Delight"

When I dress to a T,
You see, I got more clothes than Muhammad Ali
and I dress so viciously.
I got bodyguards, I got two big cars
That definitely ain't the wack,
I got a Lincoln Continental and a sunfoofed Cadillac.
Ho-tel, Mo-tel, Holiday Inn,
Say if your girl starts actin' up, then you take her friend.

Dana Dane - Delancey Street Lyrics

Well, I went to Delancey Street to buy some wears
Even though I already had on fresh gear
Go into the store to buy a Kangol
I took out my wallet and my fat money roll
When three females walked up to me
There was a white, a black, the other Chinese
The white girl said, "My name is Dawn
And I love your gear by Louis Vuitton"
The black girl said, "My name is Jane"
And she couldn't keep her hands off the fresh gold chains
The Chinese girl, her name Sushi
She was foggin up the '86 Guccis

"Lover boy, run everything that you've got on"
"Run your Gucci, your Louis and your fresh gold chains
And your Bally shoes, we want it all from you"

Hmmmm im not gonna go as far as to say rappers dont play their part in this game we call life, but ultimately I feel like we do need to come together. It just seems like everyone wants to be the boss or CEO whenever such movements are created...a case of too many chiefs and not enough Indians if you will. But we survived worst shyt so we will overcome

A Washington, D.C. based research group called the Harvest Institute surveyed how many times income circulates within a community before leaving it. The survey shows that while Whites circulate their income UNLIMITED times in their community, the Jewish community recycles their money at least 12 times, most Asian communities circulate money at least 9 times, and Latinos recycle money six times in their community, in the Black community, income circulates ZERO to one time.

:wow:

I'd like to read how they calculate this

:comeon:This sounds like something Agent Dr. Boyce Watkins would write, he's on a quest to systemically destroy Jay Z; yet he will not check these cacs....wonder why:patrice:

I will articulate better later, but I agree completely with OP

HipHop is the MOST powerful form of music in the world, if unity, financial responsibility & empowerment were the material on the same great beats and lyrical word play...

The urban community would change over night.
