Comparing some white boy to Kobe just rubs me the wrong way fam. Lol. I mean out of all the rappers? Who’s Jordan? I mean if Pac is Jordan than Jay is Kobe. If Jay is Jordan than Nas is Kobe. And likewise. Etc etc. I just can’t see putting Em in that slot. Eminem is Larry Bird if anything.

See that's the issue then...you're thinking about race when people typically have Bird ranked higher than Kobe all time.

Kobe wasn't the greatest player ever, not even top 5 but he was undeniable great.

Em isn't THE goat, not even top 5 by a long shot but undeniable one of the greats to ever grab a mic.

Not gonna call Kane a c00n, but he's tripping because Kobe was most peoples top 5 even before his death. Is anyone even still listening to any of Em's old albums?:mjlol:

Kobe was NOT a top 5 consensus player before his death and he shouldn't be now, he's top 10 for me but if we talking consensus there were plenty of people who had him right outside the top 10 in favor for somebody like Duncan.

Completely agree with this. My point is nuanced, Em, as a top 5 of all time, is a big statement.

Most lists, in no order are Jay, Nas, Big, Pac. Many lists then include one or more from the Golden Era (Rakim, G rap, etc) then u get mentions like Snoop, Scarface, Andre3000, Drake, Wayne, etc.

So to confidently put Em above EVERYONE in the last group is :stopitslime:

:mindblown:
Em above Scarface? boy siddung

Above the fray.
Unfortunately, when the legends show respect to BLACK rappers who came after them, not enough controversy for people to care about those opinions.

Stats wise maybe...skill wise? Nah. Drake is Mark Mcgwire, lol, for obvious reasons

Nas = Tim Duncan. No flash, not as popular/commercial relevant as the people he's compared to, but he gets it done and is one of the best ever stats and skills wise

Right Nas and TD are one of the same analogy wise. Everyone knows who they are even if they aren't 100% familiar with their body of work and everyone has them firmly in their top 10's of all time

Two things wrong with the bold.

BDK is not just a rap fan with an opinion, he is an architect of this culture and the art form of rap.
Hip Hop culture and the arts contained within are not pop culture.

Now him being who he is doesn't negate how you feel of course, but his take on what makes a dope MC is heavily weighted, much more so than a random 50 year old commenting on pop culture as you put it.

I agree with the bold, but at the same time I don't have to take his word as gospel. Lord Jamar is also a pioneer and we know how he feels about Em.

As a hypothetical, If Bill Russell declared Kobe the best ever you can respect his opinion while also keeping your stance that he's dead wrong.

See I have Kobe ranked over Bird. And I think he’s top 5.

Real shyt.

And Jamar even knows the deal with Em, you gotta call out the media bias and politricks trying to paint Em as THE GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME but he's a legendary MC off top, regardless of preferences.

Horrible analogy:

Kobe is most ppls top 5 or 10 when he was alive. Kane said Kobe was Top 5.

Em, is not Top 5 or 10 on most ppls list.

The only caveat, is that, 1. BDK was taking a generational stance vs a GOAT one and 2. He was clearly caught off guard and said, I guess Em. But still, bad analogy.

IM PRETTY SURE MOST PPL
OUTSIDE OF THE COLI
HAVE EM TOP 10.
