Gold? Peasants :comeon:

Platinum Gang here :win:

You have to keep stepping up in cards to get to that level, Amex ain’t sending out no preapprovals for anything outside a blue cash card :mjlol:

Start with a Cap 1 Quicksilver, then Discover card and get that limit up to about $15k then go to the Chase Sapphire Reserve which I think my limit is $25k, from there the Amex Plat should open up. Don’t waste your tile with a gold card I don’t even think the benefits outweigh the annual fee

Not really. I've received preapproved offers for AMEX Gold several years ago. At the time I balked because I didn't want to pay the annual fee :yeshrug:

Also credit cards may or may not be the best for OPs situation. A lot of the benefits are tied to travel and if he isn't traveling like that why even get such a card? If OP works a job where he travels a bit and gets reimbursed for his purchases then it would be a better deal imo

Yeah if he ain’t bout that centurion lounge life then I agree the Amex plat isn’t worth it for him. Chase sapphire will do fine, the Barclays card used to be jammin too but I haven’t looked their direction in a while to see if the benefits are still top tier or not.

just checked my credit.
pushing up on 760, under 10% credit usage...and i've been unemployed since march 2020.
life is crazy. my credit was not jacked up before that but it's gotten steadily better over the
past year and a half and that's just off unemployment benefits.
i have bought a few things here and there but for the most part i bank everything and pay off debt like it was my job.
i don't really get any credit card offers...

Why do you want an Amex Gold? :usure:

You ready to pay the yearly fee for using the card?

I didn’t say I want it, bro. My question was, what scores start attracting the big boy credit card companies and start sending you pre-approved mail?

People get caught up on annual fees too much. The Amex platinum is $550 (about to be $675) but if you’re actually using it the way it was designed they are handing you $1100+ in benefits. More if you count the point system and know how to game it. The Mexico and Belize hotels for my winter vacation are going to be free 99 after I cash in my points on the resorts we are hitting up. Already have the Mexican resort, after this road trip we are going on for a month I’ll be booking the Belize hotel and won’t pay a Dime for it.

Credit gurus, I have been working hard to improve my score and it has been working great. :wow:

I know time is everything when building credit but My question though is, when do I start receiving pre approved letters from the big boy companies; Amex, Chase, etc

Of course that’s not the main focus on why I am working on my credit life but I bet it feels great when you get a pre approved letter for AMEX GOLD :patrice:

What’s that score that helps open some of these doors? :feedme:

just check to see if you pre-qualify for any AmEx cards....no impact to your credit. Contrary to what folks believe, these cards aren’t hard to get. It’s actually harder to get a chase card than an AmEx....

here are some other cards that offer pre-approval without a hard pull and doesn’t affect your credit:

With many cards offering points and “cash back” options, I could never justify the annual fee. There may be other perks that make it worthwhile, depending on your lifestyle (such as lounge access and specific reimbursements like global entry/precheck, etc), but points alone have never warranted the annual fee in my experience.

That’s why there’s literally hundreds to choose from. Our needs are all different.

5/24 and it kicks my ass
Points guy said it was 2/24, either way Chase is for sure harder to obtain (I got my sapphire years before my platinum) but Chase plays by different rules. I honestly like my platinum better but that’s because of the benefits, also a small flex because many in my circle haven’t even seen one. Hopefully in about a decade I’ll be on a centurion card. Wife has to start working for that to happen though and it will be another 14 or so months before she lands the job she wants.

AMEX Platinum is the GOAT card. The annual fee pays for itself many times over if you use the card. It’s my main card. The only time I felt I didn’t get crazy value for the fee was 2020 when travel was halted. Still at the end of the year got two round trip tickets to Japan $1400 and didn’t pay a dime.
