A lot of the benefits of working from the office really depends on the industry you're in and the compnay. In my experience in Corp America, these are some of the benefits I've found from working in an office.
  • If you're a new employee, especially a more junior one, onboarding is much easier in person than remotely, especially for roles that aren't as "task-oriented" e.g. you stick to a script/operational plan. There are some concepts that would be better explained on a white board.
  • Enterprise infrastructure in the office (fast internet, printers, dedicated meeting spaces etc). I've been going into the office and every now and then my manager's manager will come in because he has to print a bunch of docs. In WFH all those costs are passed on to the employee
  • In certain meetings, it's easier to read the room concerning what questions to ask, what not to ask etc. There's a tendency for people to just agree on Teams meetings so as to not interrupt the flow of the meeting.
  • More anonymous convos can be had in the office. It's easier to peel someone to the side and have a convo offline. At my previous company that's how I found out there were going to be some layoffs in my department and I adjusted accordingly.
  • "Out of sight, out of mind". If I don't see you and interact with you somewhat frequently, I don't know you exist. Business is still a people-based industry so it's good to get facetime with folks. This is especially true for promotions.
  • You can "ear hustle" better in that you can pick up on opportunities just being curious and around certain meetings/company events.
  • Separation of home and work.

Now I don't think most people need to be in the office 5-days a week to get these benefits (again, depends on the company) but I do think some people will benefit from at least 1-2 days in the office.
Started a job as a mid level engineering manager some months back, and I agree with this. These working sessions on teams don’t work as much as actually being in the office learning. With that said, I’m fine with a hybrid schedule; home a few days out the week and in the office them other days. We got it now where it’s mandatory to go in on Thursdays, but I’ll go in a few days out the week to get up with my boss to pick his brain on certain shyt, to better understand the manufacturing operation, and to just be around others in the office for networking purposes; going out to lunches and stuff like that

Working from home will get better with hologram technology, where your mom will call you at 6am while your girl is there and pop up on hologram form.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
She out of her damn mind and needs to either drive to the office to work or to be let go for not being able to perform the job she was hired to do. No one will actually say it out loud, but if she was to ever bring that argument about the company paying for internet up to corporate those will be her two options. Who the hell takes a wfh position and the refuses to get internet for their home?
:hubie:

I didn't know she STARTED by taking the job. I'm thinking about she had an office job, was forced to work at home, and then was told to provide these things

Gas prices too high for that. I been home since Covid and aint going back.
I got two Full Time WFH jobs. Banking like crazy. He's out of his god damn mind if he thinks I'm going back in the office. Many companies see a spike in production with employees. So many more are offering remote work. Only old fukkers, people without a social life and people with control issues really want to go back in the office. :camby:

What about not having to fight through traffic to get their on time? That's one of the things that's increased my productivity.
It's called reduced stress levels. Fighting traffic is one of those things that increase stress, even if you are a calm person. What about not actually seeing annoying co workers trying to talk to you throughout the day? Saving money on lunch, gas and buying clothes. All that shyt costs a lot. I took that amount and am putting it towards investments.

Lol fukk outta here

the amount of glaring issues facing us from the corporate sector and apparently the only thing we should be fixing is work from home… while a pandemic is still going

How about these politicians repeal citizens United, or address all the jobs neoconservatives outsourced during Reagan, or enact the minimum wage reforms they ran their campaigns on. Or any of the countless problems that effect the working class, instead of just acting as a spokesperson for the corporate ruling class?

fukking right wing authoritarians masquerading as left wing democrats. fukking neoliberals.

He'll probably like and claim he never said it. Just like he didn't promise 10K in student loan forgiveness.
