wealth inequality and the rent price(commercial and residential).

the greed of developers and landlords is killing off niche shops. I'll watch older movies and be reminded of the small niches shops able to operate because thy didn't have exorbitant rents. small businesses that existed in the 90's and 2000's like hat shops that sold accessories but they were known for hats and other niche shops that can't afford the $3K+ rent in a lot of cities.

high rents and wealth inequality are killing small businesses since most people have less disposable income .

Like I always said: body the landlords like that Healthcare CEO and the problem will solve itself :hubie:

These downtowns will die without employees.

1) The coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, and little businesses will just close.

The rents they pay don't justify the business.
This has been true for a long long time - but now there's even less justification.

The big cities with expensive real estate pay a lot of taxes - less of that means tax burden gets spread to residential areas. We are already seeing that in a number of cities.

Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
As a lifelong seattleite, tech ruined the emerald city…

But with all the transients/hobos/druggies and IT-laden indians… city and surrounding metro areas lost any semblance of character/personality.

They really fukked my city up.

We havent even gotten to all the transplants/cacs that relocated here and bumped up the cost of housing/taxes (they never made sidewalks in the hood, but now u got white folks here, you gotta start paving safe walking routes for them now - see “white privilege” for 1000, Alex).

Man im mid key kinda angry now that i think about how this town turned out. But what can u do.

After the kites, indies might be my second most despised group on the planet.

They add zero value to anything….

If theyre already working from
Home… why bring them to america then?

it seemed like Seattle and other places like san Francisco seemed kinda dope from watching old movies and shyt but now because of all the hype they been getting it doesn’t seem desirable unless u got money or a foreigner in tech

maybe it’s time for America to somehow build up other cities that ain’t been ruined yet

It's pros and cons to 100% remote work. Ultimately it won't be sustainable.

Local restaurants and business rely on the lunch crowd to generate revenue.

Corporations have crazy rent to pay in these downtown buildings.

There's already an increase in vacant real estate for commercial use. Business isn't surviving. That's increasing the cost of insurance or most carriers are just all together declining coverage.

Vacant buildings are leading to more crime

As someone hoping to relocate possibly to Seattle in a few years I heard that traffic is insane, I'm in ATL right now tho so it can't be worse than that

It has its' downsides like any place but I love almost everything about it here. My wife was actually born and raised East of Seattle (Mercer Island) so her family being here and my girls able to grow up with their people is cool, but Seattle definitely isn't for you if you aren't making a certain amount of money. Me & my wife combined bring in right at half a mil after taxes, but we also have three kids, two of which attend private school and have expensive hobbies, which isn't cheap. We also chose a relatively expensive neighborhood for the gated community and low crime rate, so the mortgage is real and the groceries add up, too.

If you're single with no kids but want to be in relative reasonable proximity of the city, definitely look into moving north (Everett, Shoreline, Lynnwood, Mill Creek) or south (Renton, Tukwila, Burien) of Seattle to save yourself some COL. South is typically noticeably cheaper (Burien is going up, though) but I prefer north personally. Keep in mind, coming from ATL, none of these places are cheap, just more affordable than Seattle proper. Avoid east of Seattle past Sammmamish unless you're MAGA, in which case youll be right at home. It's like stepping into the Upside Down if you're living on the West side.

Traffic isn't as bad as Atlanta's on its' worse day, but you may be having PTSD next year since Amazon is sending its' workers back into the office and construction on I5 is set to begin early spring, iirc.

Oh, and I hope you're comfortable with PAWGing or PAAGing. :mjpls: :hubie:
