Trump is a known quantity. Nothing he has said or done should surprise us. Hes been a bombastic showman for damn near 50 years; he will say and do whatever it takes to get ratings and votes. But to run an equally old zombie or the worst rated VP in 4 decades against him is actually retarded. There should have been primaries with actual candidates. At least the Republicans tried to shrug off Trump. But people chose him. The Democrats TOLD people who they will vote for, there was barely a choice in the matter.
Republicans learned from Reagan and continued his philosophy well into this century. Democrats apparently didn't learn shyt on how to counter it. They didn't learn shyt on how to speak to their base or listen to anyone that isn't a consultant or pollster. Biden's hubris is what is driving his regret. Biden and the DNC could have done a lot of things to avoid this outcome.
Biden could have selected Elizabeth Warren or Bernie as his running mate instead of Kamala who lost early in the primary.
Biden could have stepped down 2 years in and let the VP take over, then they could have had a primary and if someone else was more popular, they'd get the nomination and take on Trump.
Kamala could have ignored her millionaire brother in law and sought the advice of politicians who got A LOT of votes in the primary, and Pete Buttigieg who has been a good PR man for the party by explaining the policies. But she didn't.
Democrats are where Republicans were in 2012. They're out of touch with their base and are too scared to take risks. They've gotten comfortable with the status quo and don't actually care if they lose because the average age of a Democrat in washington is like 55. This is a game to them. This guy is talking about politics like it's his fukking hobby. He should be at home with his family and looking after his health, but there's this sense that he's "owed" a chance. This party needs a renovation. As long as these ancient people are in charge, they will continue to lose. Right now, their best shot at winning elections again is to engage young voters and to get people voting in municipal and state elections. They have to focus on turning small districts blue instead of just only focusing on the cities. When someone looks at an electoral map, they see what kind of work republicans have been putting in. A city might be blue, but there are plenty of counties that are red.
They need to spend time collecting info. They need to comb through social media, listen to the phone messages that people leave, collect email data, and just look at what it is that people want, what works in other countries, and just focus on being an actual liberal opposition instead of a flip flopping centrist party. They need people who have firm beliefs informed by life experience and what human beings say they want and stand on that instead of listening to political consultants who don't actually spend time with human beings making less than 100k a month.
