People blaming economics are maybe not wrong but its far from the main reason. I’ve been around poor black people in places like Mississippi, the Carolinas and GA where the poverty is far worse but they don’t have above any of the violence.
I would think the culture of glamorizing shooting up family homes and “opp packs” has far more to do with it but that’s just me.

I live in the worse hood in Detroit and have been there off and on since I was a child, and it's been top 3 violent zips for like 40 years. Your family is scary as hell and goofy. The people where I live aren't afraid to do basic shyt. I've seen 2 murders and we ( my family) have seen 15 happen in the area, just the other day some house I just rehabbed got shot up because of the house next door to it. Anyway, this is a social economic and resource issue that easy to fix on a macro level if the government wanted to fix it - on the flip side
Most people who live in the hood know that you're pretty safe unless you're into fukkery. People typically end up dead when they play stupid games or they are with a gang.
NTM - there are at least 50 other areas in the USA more violent than the Chi... at least in Chicago 80% of the city is safe so there are outlets.

Detroit had over 300 murders in 2020
Chicago had over 700 in 2020
But Chicago had almost 3 Million People and like 10 million in the metro while
Detroit has around 600K residents.
That's why a place like Detroit is considered way more violent because there is almost no escape in most areas.
And there are probably 50 other US cities More violent than Chicago.
If chi town had 600K people it would probably only have about 70 murders.... that's how safe it is....

the percentages show that it's mostly white people on welfare, but also does show the percentage of us on welfare - 1st of all....
