The coli

‘Don’t call an album a classic the day it just dropped’

also the coli

‘Reasonable doubt wasn’t considered a classic in 1996 so that means it can never be a classic’

is it oochi… you know what, never mind :stopitslime:

That's the thing though, nobody said RD is not a classic or don't deserve to be compared to IDAHIH. It's only the Jay stans acting like the comparison is laughable and acting surprised he's losing the poll

It's another case of Jay stans trying to rewrite history. If you asked this in 1999 or 2001, nobody's laughing at the idea of mentioning DMX best work alongside Jay's

Contrary to your belief. In real time a lot of people thought Dmx was a gimmick. A 2pac copy. And slot of people don’t think it’s dark classic. I.e. the source not re rating it to give it 5 mics

The Source shouldn’t have Re rated shyt. That was goofy imo. And ur bullshytting. WAAAY more people liked DMX than didn’t at the time. And I was at the HKL tour. X shut that shyt down and even Jay himself will tell u that. U STRAIGHT bullshyttin if u don’t think nikkas was comparing Jay and X back then.

I’m a person that read every review and article of Dmx. I’m remember vividly and being mad about it

Y'all are both right. The streets loved DMX. He had shyt on lock. But the media/journalist and "Hip Hop" heads thought DMX was gimmicky because he barked on records and growled and they thought he was a 2Pac clone. Which, never made any sense to me. They're nothing alike.

Most people really thought DMX came out of nowhere. A lot of them didn't realize DMX had been rapping for 15 years prior to his debut, was rapping on Stretch and Bobbito with Percee P and in all the super Hip Hop clubs back in the 80s rhyming with Lord Jamar before Brand Nubian and all this. They treated him like he was some label created rapper. Which is insane when you really know X's Hip Hop roots.

Yea I wasn’t talking about publications tho. We talking about people. And how the people saw them. No one would’ve looked at u crazy for comparing X and Jay. No one in the streets.

So Source ratings matter now? Funny you were just arguing they based on politics in another thread, but I'll let you tell it :sas1:

A lot of people thought Jay was an unoriginal, trend hopping Biggie wannabe too but we'll set that aside for now.

IDAHIH is an album a lot of dudes connected with in a serious way and still do. And it buried the shiny suit era overnight. It's still seen as a classic and a landmark album.

I always gave RD its due. I was trying to put everyone who would listen onto that album back in 97 and 98 before Vol. 2 blew up. Again, only dudes in here acting like the comparison is ridiculous are Jay stans

Yes they mattered then, but people kill RD for not getting 5 but call IDAH classic when it didn’t get 5 either
