Almost through January of WCW, dope AF compared to the WWE today of course :scust:

But still lacking a lot of midcard storylines

On the Nitro where Macho Man just returned. Debating watching the PPVs too, but the first one up is Souled Out :scust:

Might have to make a watch party for others to "enjoy" that shyt with me
Souled Out watch party is lit just for the fukkery of the PPV :mjlit:

Tough choice. I was a huge wrestling fan back in those days..I was young so my bedtime was 9:00.

I always watched Nitro more than Raw so I’ll go with WCW

so we're penalizing WCW for having a great storyline that dwarfed the rest of the wrestling world altogether?

meanwhile, we're rewarding WWF mediocrity just because?? and where were all these 'really good' WWF matches? WCW would routinely have midcard matches on free-tv that blow away 95% of these so-called great WWF matches.

WWF had a lot of great matches in 1997, here's some examples:

Bret Hart vs Undertaker vs Vader vs Stone Cold Steve Austin Four Corners Elimination match from Final Four February '97

Bret Hart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin Submission Match from WrestleMania 13

Owen Hart vs British Bulldog European Championship from Raw March '97

Bret Hart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin from Revenge of the Taker April '97

Undertaker vs Mankind WWF Title match from Revenge of the Taker April '97

HBK and Steve Austin vs Owen and Bulldog Tag Team Title Match from Raw May '97

HBK vs Stone Cold Steve Austin from King of the Ring '97

Ken Shamrock, LOD, Goldust, Steve Austin vs The Hart Foundation Ten Man Tag Match from Canadian Stampede July '97

HHH vs. Mankind Cage Match from Summerslam '97

Undertaker vs. Bret Hart WWF Title Match from Summerslam '97

Undertaker vs. HBK from Ground Zero September '97

HBK vs. British Bulldog European Title Match from One Night Only September '97

Cactus Jack vs HHH Street Fight from Raw September '97

Undertaker vs HBK Hell in a Cell match from Badd Blood October '97

Bret Hart vs HBK WWF Title Match from Survivor Series '97 (the finish overshadows a great match)

As you can see, the WWF was delivering great matches that entire year.

I saw most of those.

random nitro matches were better than half of this stuff.

The company with the most star power and deeper roster should be able to produce better matches on a regular basis. If you have guys like Guerrero, Benoit, Malenko, Mysterio, and Jericho etc. on your roster and you can't provide good wrestling then something is seriously wrong.

You asked where the great WWF matches were and I gave you some examples and considering the limited roster they had I think they definitely got the most out of it. (best fatal fourway match ever and bret/austin wm13 and taker/hbk hiac are two of the best matches in wrestling history) WCW's midcard matches were better but WWF's main event matches were better than WCW's, IMO.

WCW. WWF 97 was pretty good from what I've seen, but it definetely has some overrated sh1t. US vs Canada being some great storyline is revisionist history, thats boring as fukk compared to Sting/DDP/Luger vs the NWO or the Eddie vs Rey feud.

my bad. my previous post was lazy.

the point of my post is that a lot of those matches are overrated. if they took place in another promotion, most of them would be considered just another match.

THIS

the WWF gets graded on a curve. whenever they do something good, its considered great.
other promotions have to kill themselves to get such props.

When WCW lost their midcard talent to the WWF and those guys became stars in WWF was the fall of WCW. WWF 98 was probably the greatest year in wrestling history. Both WCW and WWF brought it but WWF had better high-end talent and the WCW storylines were getting stale.

95 - WCW
96 - WCW by a landslide
97 - WCW but close
98 - WWF but it was an elite year for both
99 - WWF remained elite but WCW was quickly regressing
2000 - WWF by a landslide
2001 - The end

even if you think raw was the better Monday show(which I don't), you gotta realize that there was way more to this than just Monday nights.

raw was the only good show that the wwf had, while wcw had like 5 other hours of quality programming.
and their wcw's pay-per views were usually better as well.

im not even sure if it'd put the WWF over ECW in 97.
This is a fact. WCW was also paying a lot more as well. Scrubs was getting 350k a year. Tank Abbott got like 650k a year. WCW was paying massive dollars. WWF just didn't have the bank to compete with WCW. Ted has his own channel and he was worth so much more. Honestly, WCW fell off as Ted started to run into financial issues.

Watching the matches again, WCW had better matches and talent. WCW had far too many squash matches tho. Those common 2 and a half min Luger matches for example.
