all jokes aside, South Florida is sub-tropics, and there's nothing there that could be called a "jungle" (if you've been to the everglades you've seen what Florida is really like). living in Miami was a trip though. I swear if it got into 60's, Haitians would be walking around with winter coats and mittens and shyt :heh:

now I'm in Louisiana, where lastnight it was in the 30's. (and in a few days I'll be hill bombing in SF :ahh: )

If you're out in the woods you def don't need a serrated edge. An axe/hand axe is the best for cutting wood. Ive used a saw and they're a pain in the ass for big wood pieces unless you got a really good quality one. All you need a knife for is cutting small stuff/cleaning meat which a straight edge is better for unless you wanna make things a lot harder than they need to be.

If you keep a good edge, you can cut through all of those materials.

I have never needed anything beyond a Mora knife, and there are plenty of others who have had the same experience.

The "Survival" Knives look cool--they are big and crazy looking, but I have found that it is really unnecessary and impractical.

A survival knife is one you can carry with you at all times and is reasonably sized - basically a pocket knife. Not anything 'big, or ridiculous'. However, you cannot get a sharp enOugh edge on a 2-3" Length blade, which certain applications call for. in emergency situations where time is of the essence, there is a noticeable difference using a serrated edge vs. the sharpest blade. Just a fact.

I can shave with my Mora's, that's how sharp they are.

I would prefer a sharp blade, so I can quickly prepare kindling, feather sticks, cut rope, and use it for any other emergency situation.

One can easily cut wood with just a Mora knife, you just need the knowledge of how.

the point is you don't have an axe/handsaw/chainsaw/lazer gun

So a reasonably sized log falls and you have to cut it with a pocket knife.

The sharpest pocket knife is not going to be more efficient than a serrated edge pocket knife. You cannot get enough force to cut through that log faster than a serrated edge because of the size, regardless of how sharp the blade is.

Nothing a skill can't overcome.

These videos have no relevance to my point.

You can cut anything with a blade with enough time. A serrated blade is far more efficient in certain applications where time is of the essence. If it wasn't, they wouldn't make a serrated edge on most pocket knives.

I just don't agree. Serrated blade doesn't have the teeth like a saw. I never seen someone use a tactical knife for foresting without using a baton. Honestly, I never used a "tactical" knife before, but I doubt it would be more efficient in an emergency than a Mora.

I can do anything with a Mora knife. Not only can I cut trees, I can split logs, I can feather stick, I can create wood tools, and I make a shelter. I can also easily sharpen it using a small stone.

I know I can survive with it for days if I need to. That's all that really matters.

I have a hunting knife, gerber tool and e-tool.

E-tools are important. Make sure you pick one up. It has a chopping side and sawing side that is useful.
