Not to spin the thread or anything, but im planning a vacay to LA in December
also black, 20s, and make a lil more than OP. Where should I set up shop for a week?
there are a lot of black people in the valleyAhh iight. The valley is close enough to the action. (5-10 minutes away, if that)
Crime rate is low, in the all the areas that have been dropped in this discussion this thus far...
You will stick out like a sore thumb. There are black people out here though, many of whom are professionals of some sort. Thus the ability to afford higher income housing. There's white trash out here as well, never understood how they aren't priced out....
But LA period has seen a reduction in Blacks. Many blacks have been priced out to Altadena, Pasadena, Palmdale, Riverside, Lancaster
^^ stay the fukk away from these areas....
10 to the 110 and your in the financial dist. That's the definition of ALL HIGHWAY. Probably 15 miles which I think is bellow average for an LA commute.
cause you a bytchAll I know is..forget that South Central shyt.
One time I flew out to Vegas for a weekend, and flew back into Long Beach. Got in early..thought I'd walk around and take the train up through Compton and Watts.
...I aint doing that shyt again, that's all I know.
Average person I know Is commuting like 25-30 miles. I didn't say it's ideal but is a 15 mile commute rally outrageous for LA?
why would he live in santa monica if he works downtown?
that commute would be hell, that is far west
Santa Monica is the sh*t but yeah that commute to downtown is horrible.

Downtown seems coo. I havent been over there in 3 years but they were gentrifying it last I remember, it was starting to get hip. I had my bday on the roof top of the standard back in 2010 and I was impressed, I used to go to underground art galleries way back in the day in college when it was grimey and even then it was dope. It had that NY feel to it but without the traffic. I hear those new lofts are pricey and baller. I think soulja boy lives over there now. I heard they even have a trader joes over now. lotta people dont know about the restaurants and even low key bars over there. I bet you can still find those underground bars. Back in the day, it was a place that was real underground and gothem like at night. we used to roam around there and shoot photography back in 2003 and find all kinda random cafes in alleys and shyt, dark ass artsy spots. Downtown is pretty cool, problem is if you wanna go to the west side you gotta take the 10.Santa Monica is the sh*t but yeah that commute to downtown is horrible.
The OP should check out the downtown area first off all even though its starting to get expensive there.. but the nightlife, bars, and restaurants are starting to come up big time in downtown. Next check out Los Felize, Mid Wilshire, South Pasadena, Pasadena, and the USC area. Those areas are outside downtown but they have 'straight line'
-short distances to downtown. Or come on down to Inglewood breh.. Its easy getting to the 110 and rush hour traffic on the 110 isn't near as bad as the 405 or 10 freeways.
-and with some of these neighborhoods, go visit the potential apartment/crib you're interested in during the day and then also make a visit at night so you know how things are fully. some blocks change from daytime to nighttime. It only takes one house or apartment to ruin an entire block. There's alot of good blocks even in hood areas, you just gotta peep them out
By the way, I aint never seen so many baby strollers on the train in my lifecause you a bytch
you aint built for this crazy south central life
