Word up! As I've said, 86/87 were more so transitional years. That 2 year span, you start to see a shift from the 808 drum beats/simple rhymes to the james brown funk samples and more complex style of rhyming. Everybody were basically getting their feet wet with the new sounds. In 88, you see the all the new sounds come into fruition and become the norm for what was considered hot in Hip Hop at that time.
